Cladding on the north and south elevations has progressed far enough that I can finally state that this subjectively looks like total shit and is one of the top five most disappointing project executions of the last decade. Inflammatory take, I know. Obviously the podium is strong, but it just...

Toronto: always worried how we measure up to other cities.

Indeed. That part of the gardiner’s belly actually looks vastly improved, work was ongoing just west of where I took that photo, but vastly improved only means so much considering it looked a notably rough part of Gotham five years ago

Tuesday March 5. South of Fort York. Photo doesn’t really do this view justice, it feels extremely urban.

Taken Tuesday March 5. Curvy columns head back upright it would seem.

Mississauga Square One District Phase One | ?m | 52s | Oxford Properties | Arcadis

Bit off topic, but the clock tower at Mississauga civic centre as seen in Lake Ontario’s excellent first photo directly above is a strong contender for one of my least favorite buildings in the GTA. It’s so hopelessly ugly and hokey, and will only feel increasing dated as the area modernizes...

My admittedly unscientific count of Northern Light’s photo from Feb 22 is that it was on the 52nd floor. Probably up to 54 or so by now.

Certainly not terrible. Need to see how it looks in the sun.

I dont mind that they don’t line up - seeing as they’re there, I don’t mind that choice - but UrbanAffair hit the nail on the head: so kitschy it would be better if they weren’t there at all.

    Toronto Junction Point | 27.6m | 8s | Gairloch | a—A

As per @dgto’s recent comment, this is an excellent vantage point to view this building, as it chops out the worst bit.

    Vaughan CG Tower | 188.97m | 60s | Cortel Group | BDP Quadrangle

Looks like they’ve poured the last setback and are working on the final portion. I haven’t made up my mind on this one yet, so far 6.5/10. I agree the precast could be brighter, but it could also be a lot worse. Mostly I’m confused as to why there’s not anything interesting to do at the base of...

    Hamilton McMaster Graduate Student Residence | 97.9m | 30s | Knightstone | Diamond Schmitt

The way the cladding pattern terminates at the top of the tower when viewing the thinner sides is truly terrible. What were they thinking? Just keep the gold fins extended to the very top, so simple. r/mildlyinfuriating

This is one of my favorite threads to follow right now, partially because there’s real lack of consensus as to whether or not it looks good. My two cents: I like it. It is a bit of a missed opportunity, because this massing, with expert level cladding, would probably make it a top five...

    Toronto The James at Scrivener Square | 81.65m | 21s | Tricon | Graziani + Corazza

Nearly 18 years since the start of this thread! By the time its topped out, we can legally buy this thread a beer to celebrate.

As far as renders go, I’m a huge fan of this project as currently envisioned. Love the window design for the podium, which isn’t something that usually sticks out in a good way. Fingers crossed this goes well. Can’t say I know anything about the reputation of the developer.

    Toronto 50 Scollard | 147.62m | 41s | Lanterra | Foster + Partners

This building will be a sort of metallic golden beige eventually, so you may end up unimpressed, but the beige you can see on the exterior now, I’m 99% sure that is insulation and not the final colour of the cladding.

Exterior looks like it was designed by a 6 year old. I’m usually all for irregular balcony patterns, but this looks worse than if they’d kept it simple.
