I’m typically pretty OCD when it comes to this — I can spot repeated pattern planks on laminate flooring or veining on a man-made marble or stone. At least here the repeated patterns are not that frequent and arranged thoughtfully. It drives me insane when I see bathroom tiles with the...

I’m very impressed with the steel panels. I haven’t noticed a single repeated folded pattern in each of the panels and curious on how many unique panels will be installed on the entire building once it is completed. I’m happy that they didn’t cut cost by using just a limited number of...

Damn paywall. Can someone post the text?

The building was computer modelled to simulate the microclimates (sun, wind, precipitation, etc.) for each balcony which determined the appropriate type of plantings. Each planter has plants selected specific for its orientation and location, so the landscape plan for each balcony will be...

    Toronto Nobu Residences Toronto | 156.66m | 45s | Madison Group | Teeple Architects

Those tiny corner balconies make the building look unfinished with the inconsistent jagged corners, and it looks like some of the faceted black panels are still missing (I don’t know if this is intentional). Those balconies are less than 30 sq.ft. (no room for furniture) and with a giant black...

From today. The light and reflections from the glass blocks look really nice in person.

Those bike rings never worked well in the city. It’s both an installation issue (the surface and base it’s installed on, and the length of the bolts and how it’s installed), and the use & abuse it gets in Toronto. They may work well in Europe and Asia, as the general population are more...

I know, I was expecting the crates to be more efficiently packed, like a flat-packed piece of IKEA furniture. But I’m guessing it’s done that way to prevent the panels from damaging each other during transport, and each panel is very heavy.

The United BLDG (Davpart/H&R Developments) - Real Estate -

By the time this building is completed, the condo market will hopefully recover by then, unless it is fully of poorly designed cramped units that’s impractical for an end user to live in. This is a big reason why many of these condos are not selling — tons of these crappy units were instantly...

    Toronto Fairview Mall Redevelopment | 176.9m | 52s | Cadillac Fairview | HPA + Adamson

A 60% reduction in area and only one tower, down from three, and we get this? It’s not a bad building, but very vanilla. Considering Fairview Mall doesn’t really have a visual identity, and having this building go up right in front of it on a prominent street, it deserves a more interesting and...

    Toronto 333 College Street | 69.2m | 19s | Parallax | Rafael + Bigauskas

If you look at the ground floor plan, there is a turnstile at the concierge desk as soon as you enter the lobby from the vestibule. It's getting there, lol! The moving room is small and not easily accessible from the drive aisle, as a row of parking spaces is located in front of the door...

The first two renderings doesn’t look too bad with the warehouse loft aesthetic, but still lacking in something. The other renderings look like a hospital with the small aluminum framed square windows (were they earlier proposals?). The larger windows will make for much nicer condo units inside.

    Toronto Reside on Richmond | 97.9m | 30s | Originate | Kirkor

The podium is a big improvement, but I’m disappointed that the tower is a generic grid of off-white precast and punched openings. The tower needs a bit more articulation. Maybe a step-back or two, and some rows of balconies to break up the boxy mass.

    Weird floor plans…

Must get really cold and drafty in the winter having a bed pressed against that corner wall of glass. This is not even a legal bedroom as it doesn’t meet the minimum floor area requirements. This should really be a den. I would get rid of the closet to free up more space.

The website hasn’t been updated, and the sales office has been closed for a while — it was across the street, but it’s now being used as their management office. I’m sure if you wanted to buy one of the remaining penthouses, they could make that happen.😉

    Toronto The Spoke | 78.65m | 23s | Tricon | TACT + G+C

The huge roof on the 5th floor could have been a really nice outdoor amenity space (outdoor garden and BBQs), but from the renderings it looks like one big green roof with a unit fronting it with a small terrace space. It seems like a waste and a missed opportunity.
