    General railway discussions

The port is only open late June through November. I‘ve always thought these rail improvements could be spent better elsewhere improving transit times and capacities. But maybe they are anticipating global warming…..

    Oakville 166 South Service Road East | 194m | 58s | Distrikt Group | Sweeny &Co

It would be interesting to see that overhead shot with all applications for Developement shown For this area. There are a number. Note that developement notifications are up at the long dormant site at the corner of Lyons and Speers. I think the ”hole in the doughnut” would be the GO parking...

    Roads: GTA West Corridor—Highway 413

Not sure what the issue is with growing any of those crops? They form valuable parts of your or most peoples diet and can easily be part of a good crop rotation system. Not everyone can be a fruit farmer or a market gardener. If you are concerned about that, look at the effects that will occur...

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

I went and had a look on foot. You are absolutely correct and both sets of switches are fairly close to the existing roadway, certainly within the parameters that would be needed to shift track to build an underpass. So I am assuming they will move switches as part of the process of shifting...

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

I would have thought there would be enough room to route at least a couple of lanes of BO around the building site, or half of it? I assume they would be shifting tracks as well, or are they going to shove a box under the tracks as they did at King Road ( and will do on HWY 10/Hurontario?)

Waterfront Transit Reset Phase 1 Study

Raising property taxes should just be done - but not for roads. You are penalizing many Torontonians, while I, a non-resident, but constant work related user of Toronto roads and transit enjoys the ride. Property tax revenues should be directed, as Northern Light has pointed out, to a lengthy...

    Oakville Distrikt Station | 184.8m | 58s | Distrikt Development | BDP Quadrangle

Coming from the area, I would say this proposal is going to catch a lot of people off guard. the sheer size of the proposal will draw a lot of comment. A couple of,things work in its favour. The parking ratio is pretty unique. Not sure it’s realistic, but unique. And as traffic considerations...

    Toronto Love Park | 3m | 1s | City of Toronto | CCxA

I know we are well off topic, but briefly, U of G has much on Elm restoration projects. Dutch Elm disease profoundly changed the landscapes in Ontario, especially rural Ontario, almost completely eliminating native elms. And on our farm - 100% loss, and quickly. I can remember family members...

Dutch Elm. my first thought upon reading was that you had slipped ‘Dutch’ in by mistake re Dutch Elm Disease. But I think you are referring to the European hybrid elm? Is that correct? Regardless, the example is a lovely tree, hopefully not considered invasive.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

And the cottage trains that ran from Toronto to the Gravenhurst docks to connect to the lake steamers…would there be a market for a GO train to Washago, Gravenhurst and Huntsville? I think so.

    Oakville Harbour Place Townhomes | 13.58m | 3s | Biddington | Guthrie Muscovitch

This has been underway for some time. There is a fair amount of infill intensification going on in this neighbourhood. Kitty corner to this project and just to the west of Fortinos is the older grocery store complex - single story with a very large parking lot. It will be very interesting to...

    General railway discussions

Is there really a need for another tidewater port ( that is only functional for part of the year) or does it make more sense to enhance connections and capability to the west coast, east coast and Montreal/St Lawrence. I could see Churchill under consideration as a shorter turn around summer...

    Toronto Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

The solution is not more roads to move cars to the next area of congestion faster. The need is to identify routes for rapid transit and make those additions both rapid and frequent. As Toronto continues to intensify the priority must be transit (and bikes and pedestrians) over cars. If you...

    Toronto The Well | 174.03m | 46s | RioCan | Hariri Pontarini

If I worked for Toronto Hydro and regularily read this blog I am pretty sure therapy would be in order. I’m not sure I have ever read a positive piece about TH. Perhaps they just do not appreciate change upsetting their status quo…

    Oakville 166 South Service Road East | 194m | 58s | Distrikt Group | Sweeny &Co

So that’s the Home Depot to the right of the picture, the QEW in the foreground, something imaginary in both the left side of the visualization and the background….? Someone’s imagination runs wild, compared to the actual site.

    Oakville 485 Trafalgar Rd | ?m | 19s | First Capital | Giannone Petricone

This is rapidly becoming even a busier corner of OT. I grew up in this area and can remember, as do you, the rather excellent lumber yard on this site, followed by the chandlers yard etc. The underage crowd will miss the present establishment, but as noted this looks interesting. Is the parking...

    Toronto Eglinton Line 5 Crosstown West Extension | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

Are those note bike lanes? I may be wrong, but in any event, should they now be Ike lanes?

    Burlington 2096 Lakeshore Road (Burlington) | ?m | 27s | Core Development | Studio JCI

Very mixed opinions about this. The whole area is beginning to look like Humber Bay Shores west. And with transportation being bus and car options, the issue of transportation and transit is going to continue to escalate as the ongoing issues with the QEW, the Freeman interchange, the 403 lead...

    Burlington Oval Court | 104.5m | 30s | Branthaven Homes | Core Architects

Interesting. It’s an isolated area of the city with only westward access to the outside world, Sherwood park is to the east, hydro corridor to the south, and the railway to the north. Parking is a big issue with the heavy use of Sherwood Park year around for its ‘footie’ and rugby activities...
