    Zoning Reform Ideas

Leverage has long made real estate investing more lucrative than it really is. Investors/speculators are about to learn about what happens to leveraged investments when the asset declines in value...

    Cycling infrastructure (Separated bike lanes)

I don't know which side of Avenue they were on, but that westbound bike lane is still an active construction site between Avenue and Spadina.

I think the federal government drives the bus on the airport land.

A five storey above-ground parking garage would be the perfect platform for the Ferris wheel.

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

I miss the 75 since moving out west. Never a dull moment, and a great place to teach your kid about life and everything it entails.

That's a really nice outdoor space, but that apartment would be a whole lot better if it was all inside space! The difference between a 1168 sf apartment and a 1900 sf apartment is the difference between being able to have one kid, or have 2-3 kids.

    LCBO / The Beer Store

The article really doesn't explain the issue very well. They hint at it with the quote from the booze companies: But they don't explain that the reason the companies have lower prices in other provinces is because the LCBO itself won't allow them to have a lower price in Ontario. Josh Rubin...

    Zoning Reform Ideas

I think the second type of study should be undertaken by the city and shouldn't be dropped on any individual development, since the "traffic" as well as the measures to manage it, is largely not related to any individual development. I think Winnipeg still has parking minimums at a pretty...

    Mayor Olivia Chow's Toronto

Either way, hopefully this year they come back, tell people they took the time to do the due diligence, select the best option, then get something passed.

    Toronto Mirvish Village (Honest Ed's Redevelopment) | 85.04m | 26s | Westbank | Henriquez Partners

I haven't gone to see it in person yet, but looking at the pictures, it looks like a fun little quirk.

I think if you asked a lot of renters, a balcony is pretty high on their wish list. And a balcony is definitely nice to have, if you conceive of it as an "extra". If you think of it as indoor space that you're giving up to instead have a balcony, probably wouldn't be so popular... Despite the...

More on Chow's budgeting mastery... https://www.thestar.com/opinion/contributors/a-year-ago-toronto-s-budget-was-a-dumpster-fire-now-the-city-s-running/article_ac20acfa-4839-11ef-a6eb-af75604dd8e2.html I wonder if the stormwater charge issue will have more salience this year?

    Cycling infrastructure (Separated bike lanes)

That's really fast! I worked for a few years at Dixie and Eglinton and lived at Bloor and Spadina. Just over 20 km, but if I tried to make it in less than an hour it would take me most of the morning to cool down. Going home was nicer, as it was slightly downhill most of the way. We had a gym...

    LCBO / The Beer Store

We went to a Sobeys in cottage country near the end of last week, and they had been cleaned out of everything except a few macrobrews. No wine, no beer, just Bud Light etc.

Honestly, I know the cosmetic problems don't affect the structure, but every time I look at the older parts of the Gardiner, which chunks of concrete falling off, I'm astonished that it doesn't just collapse.

    Toronto Lower Don Lands Redevelopment | ?m | ?s | Waterfront Toronto

We used to love renting cottages around there, but have mostly been priced out these days. We had one on Lake Huron last week that was really well situated, but still pretty $$$.

We lived in apartments with balconies for 20 years and consistently made good use of them. But I think in every case, we would have made better use of the space if it was just part of our living room.

    Mayor Olivia Chow's Toronto

It's really provincial law. You're allowed to evict tenants to do extensive renovations. There's provision for a right of first refusal to move back in after the renos, but people need to live somewhere, so mostly tenants will move on with their lives. And if they don't, you take some small...

I was going to make a joke about A&W/Popeyes, but Osmows is probably even worse! And growing faster in Toronto. But I think Osmow was Egyptian, not Turkish. It's too bad the pizza place didn't survive. It was nice to get a pizza and sit on the grass by the lake.
