    General railway discussions

CN it's only the conductors, and engineers potentially going on strike, I know cause I work there For CPKC you have the conductors, engineers and RTC potentially going on strike which the RTC being on strike would have a bigger effect than running trades being on strike because nobody would be...

    General railway discussions

Possibly Milton line since CPKC RTC may go on strike so nobody to dispatch the trains. For CN lines, probably nothing major affecting GO or VIA

    VIA Rail

I have to kinda blame metrolinx too for bad dispatching. I took 67, we were already a bit late due to the heat slow, We passed a westbound go train around whitby and stopped at Durham jct to wait for them to pass us, followed it to Guildwood, overtook them at Eglinton and had to wait for them...

The equipment is deadheading back to Illinois via the York/Halton/Dundas sub. They ran the executives a few days ago to Montreal,

407 Rail Freight Bypass/The Missing Link

That might have to do with network redundancy (which is slightly hypocritical since they tore up so many lines) a few months ago last fall CP had a derailment on the CP Parry Sound Sub right parallel to the CN Bala at Dock siding. Both tracks were shut down for a day meaning the only way CN...

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

You should ride on the CN Newmarket at some point... with the amount of air time you get it makes pretty much every metrolinx track look like the smoothest ride ever

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Freight trains don't really go south of Downsview Park anymore furthest south they hit usually between Finch or Sheppard

    Ontario Northland/Northern Ontario Transportation

I work that line, I believe there was a connecting track from the CN side to the ONR side that bypassed the ONR yard completely. The current set up has the freight trains going through the wye and into the onr yard, the current straight ends just before Old Callander Rd,

GO Transit Fleet Equipment and other

Transport Canada requires minimum 2 years as a conductor to become a locomotive engineer. I have heard of some qualified conductors going from Class 1s to GO being a CSA for 8-12 months and then conductor another 2-4 years and then locomotive engineer. Alot of class 1 conductors will never...

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Yeah that's a bit of a pet peave of mine when people refer to the Kirby-Teston passing track as a siding. It's two main tracks. An example of a siding would be Rosedale and Oriole on the Bala sub where you are governed by different CROR rules than the CTC main track ones, however you can have...

There is some track layed between maple and the intermediate signal south of maple. Handthrow switch was installed there too

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

There's some double track under construction between Rutherford and maple go now. Also quite a bit of land has been cleared between Aurora and king city.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

They posted a Locomotive Engineer posting today but I believe that's only for qualified Locomotive Engineers, conductor still need to go through the process of CSA to Conductor which is at least 8-12 months. Someone can correct me if im wrong... Most Locomotive engineers I know at CN have at...

That's true, I guess it's a tradeoff, worse days off but better money.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

I know engineers on extended run pools (Toronto-Capreol), (Capreol-Hornepayne) currently making 190k -200k which means this offer is a bit of a pay cut/very slight increase for people on extended run terminals. But for yard guys it's a massive pay increase. Which means opinions are very split on...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

I still don't get why anyone would transfer from GO to CN, unless the working conditions are that bad... class 1 work is more physically demanding and our spareboard is 24/7 while Alstom gets their windows. I get the Alstom to VIA transition I just don't get why anyone would do Alstom to CN/CP...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

I would love to take transit to my work but the 24/7 spareboard on call with 2 hours notice makes it virtually impossible to take transit

    Roads: GTA West Corridor—Highway 413

I kinda posted the 401 comment as sarcasm. My only gripe with the shift trucks to 407 is... alot of these truckers don't have proper road etiquette and will literally stagger across all 5 lanes of the 407. I've seen it on my way to work but if it helps everyone else its fine. I personally pay...
