Like GO Stations, I think it's the amenities the travelling public want. Warm space to wait for train or pickup by last mile transport, wifi, some food or drink to consume while waiting on board. A TVM and a bus shelter is a bare minimum in those wanted amenities.

If these rumours are true, I wonder if that factored into Verster's decision to jump ship as well?

I thought last New Year's issues were more TTC problems than Metrolinx/GO Transit issues. Problems on the Subway led to the crowd backup trying to gain enterance to the Subway station. I understood that the GO Train bording process that night was realitivly efficient.

Not to derail the thread further, but I find it interesting that over 100+ years after removal of rails, railway rights of way are still quite visible in Satalite photos, even if on the ground there is little evidence that a railway was once there.

The only thing about letting operating staff go, is good luck finding a replacement in quick order. You can't hire some chump off the street and have them operate a train after a couple of online training courses. Alstom already can't provide the staffing needs for the service Metrolinx wants...
