GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

It would be nice to have some rationalization of the bus routes in the Hamilton/Burlington area. As it stands, we've got: Hamilton GO Centre: Pearson Express, QEW Express, 407 Service, Aldershot connector (+ HSR) Aldershot GO: McMaster and Hamilton GO connectors (+ limited Burlington Transit)...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

"Everyone has a smartphone" seems to be the core of Metrolinx's new communications strategy. When I inquired (via Twitter) why a train at Exhibition suddenly vanished from the display board without any announcement or other indication that it had been cancelled, I was helpfully told that I...

    Toronto Union Pearson Express | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | MMM Group Limited

I've said it before, but they should charge GO fares from Bloor/Weston to Union to fill some seats and build ridership towards an eventual RER/SmartTrack/whatever service. Also, I don't think anyone has a clue what the price elasticity really looks like for a Union-Pearson trip. It would be...

Most recent number is 2,500/day. (Forecast was about 4000/day this year, 5000/day next year.) http://www.metronews.ca/news/toronto/2015/09/18/upx-ridership-drops-by-23-per-cent.html https://twitter.com/moore_oliver/status/644984903940096000

Rail: Ontario-Quebec High Speed Rail Study

Somehow a direct NIAG-LDN service seems unlikely to me, and someone wishing to make that journey could transfer at Aldershot. The trade off is whether to serve a dense neighbourhood near the city center at West Harbour or a station well-situated for connecting traffic and freeway access at...

    Taxis and ride-sharing in Toronto

Should be fine. I've taken UberX from Toronto to Burlington (well outside the service area) a few times without issue.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Had the same thought. Would have loved a one-seat ride from Burlington to the airport. Fortunately the connection between the 47 and the 40 appears to be well-timed at Square One or Trafalgar.

I hear ya. But how much do we over-provision to accommodate the 1% case? (It's been 98.9% on time.) Certainly neither TTC nor GO are designed to surge 4 train-loads of passengers onto one train at rush hour. FWIW, the figure I cited of 350 pphpd peak ridership in 2020 comes from the same study...

If we're taking anecdotes on Twitter as hard data, that was a one-off caused by some pretty severe delays: https://twitter.com/jim9991/status/623565640289402880

I largely agree with the argument that the issue is not UP, but the lack of other useful service on this corridor. That said, we currently have a vastly underused resource that could be providing some real short-term mobility benefits until RER or Smarttrack gets off the ground. Why not allow...
