Monde Condominiums (Great Gulf Homes) - Real Estate -

Just got occupancy myself. Am generally happy with what I got! One interesting thing is that there’s seems to be a background whistling noise throughout the building that I noticed. I hope that they sort that out eventually. Saw on another forum that another project in the city had a perpetual...

Monde Condominiums (Great Gulf Homes) - Real Estate -

We just received an email telling us that our occupancy date is spring 2019 (!!!) Aargh. Here I was revving up to move in later this summer (based on their original projections), but I guess that's how these things go. It's more time to save up for furniture I suppose.:p They were building up...

Monde Condominiums (Great Gulf Homes) - Real Estate -

Yeah there was the option to upgrade to sliding doors as well. Too expensive in my opinion. ~$1700/ door. The bedroom would have needed two. The engineered hw selection was nice but it's not really to my taste. The offerings were mostly of the raw exposed grain variety whereas I prefer a silk...

Monde Condominiums (Great Gulf Homes) - Real Estate -

People are getting called for colour selections. The list of choices is in, my opinion, disappointing. Even the upgraded options didn't feel "upgraded." There are better finish choices in other projects. Considering the premium prices of these units, I would've expected more. Oh well.

    Toronto Monde | 149.95m | 44s | Great Gulf | Moshe Safdie

With the windows going up on the podium, I'm a bit disappointed that it appears to consist of green tinted glass with dark framing. I was hoping for a lighter colour overall. The material of the frame and glass looks very similar to what's used in Aqualina across the street. I'm crossing my...

    Baby, we got a bubble!?

This is a very interesting point, and is also something that I've had a gut feeling about myself for a while (based only on empirical observations.) The speculation/flipping or the 'owned-but-vacant house' phenomenon just doesn't exist in some 'hoods. To use a particular neighbourhood that I'm...

    Toronto Ten York Street Condos | 224.02m | 65s | Tridel | Wallman Architects

Curious question: What happens with the hole in the floor where the crane structure current pokes through? Does it just get filled in with concrete or is something more complex done to it? For the longest time, I always thought that elevators typically were put into the shaft made by the crane...

    Toronto Monde | 149.95m | 44s | Great Gulf | Moshe Safdie

Feb. 3, 2017. I counted 9 floors at the south end. The 3-story tall walkway in the centre is actually impressive when one stands in front of it. It would be even better if it was wider. One thing that I've found interesting is that the floor heights are quite different between Monde and...

    Baby, we got a bubble!?

I was just pondering about the bubble and trying to understand what it means in the specific context of different types of real estate or buyer classes. When we talk about the real estate bubbles, crashes and unaffordability, are we as Canadians and Torontonians talking about a broad bubble or...

    Toronto Ten York Street Condos | 224.02m | 65s | Tridel | Wallman Architects

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I recall reading somewhere that the frit pattern is so that birds don't ram into the glass.

Most and least "transient" parts of Toronto?

I've often asked myself this question in the context of condos/apartments. That is, are there are large numbers of people who live/settle in the same condo for many years? Does condo size and layout factor into it? Eg. A couple with no kids have less reason to move from a ~900sqft unit that...

British influences on Toronto, the city and its culture, that still survive to the present day

Half jokingly, I sometimes get the sense that our government policies and general approach to regulation still retains some British puritanism in spirit. I say that because I find that we tend to "regulate fun things." Do these policies reflect general public sentiment? Technically it should...

    Toronto Ten York Street Condos | 224.02m | 65s | Tridel | Wallman Architects

Visually, it seems like they used a lot more concrete for the podium than I've typically seen for other projects. I wonder if this was simply an aesthetic design choice or if there was a need for a stronger than normal structure due to the location?

    Hot Docs 2016

I saw "a dog's life" or "chienne de vie". It was incredibly moving.

    Pho

Xe lua and Pho Pasteur have been around for ever! I haven't been back to Pasteur in 20 yrs, and I guess I should! I will always fondly think of Xe Lua for those late night fixes after last call, and the fights that would sometimes break out between the hot heads. :)

    Pho

Didn't see any previous chatter about pho, so let's have at it!:) I probably hit up the pho joint once every two weeks. It's cheap and does the job. I often lament that there's no pho joint within lazy distance of the harbour front. Dio Vien or whatever they're called these days, at Gerrard...

"Classy" Chinese food - does it exist?

Totally agree, which is the generalized motivation for this discussion topic - are there ethnic foods out there that are impossible to serve in an upscale restaurant? Anyways, it's getting close to dinner time. Gonna go get myself a low-class working man's burger perhaps. :)

"Classy" Chinese food - does it exist?

I've been once. It was definitely an eating experience. But no, doesn't go too high on my 'classy' meter. :) I may be letting some cultural biases and sensibilities colour my opinion of what's classy though. For example. I can't help but think that even outdoor bistro style French or Italian...

"Classy" Chinese food - does it exist?

I guess I was making a passing statement to mean that the dim sum was still the dim sum experience that I'm used to from the taste and smells to the sounds, sights, service and end experience. This in spite of the upscale presentation. It was nice and novel, but not enough for me to say that...
