Ya, I don't get it. I'm the first person to complain about aA's typical wraparound balcony design, but this is stunning. I love the sleek black look. If executed properly, these really could look like Mies buildings. A balcony-less version of X Condos sounds great to me!

Mods, Is it really appropriate to post 1 storey buildings outside of the GTA? Do we need updates on the Petro Canada opening up in Windsor in the buildings section?

    Toronto 50 Scollard | 147.62m | 41s | Lanterra | Foster + Partners

there's no chance this gets rented at this price in this market, especially with no parking 🤣 There are units at U Condos fairly nearby that are larger (2 bed + den) with a private self contained 2 car garage within the parking garage (has garage doors, etc.) for $4200/month

    Toronto Concord Sky | 300.2m | 85s | Concord Adex | Kohn Pedersen Fox

I'm so confused as to what's actually getting built here. Each rendering in the project page shows a completely different building. Will there be balconies everywhere? Is there a white motif? I have no idea. It LOOKS like they're going for the one with the lower balcony count and a non-white...

aA are, IMO, one of the worst architects in the city. Their bland formula of window wall, and wraparound balconies gave us things like Casa I, Casa II, Casa III. This should've been Hariri Pontarini if it had to be a local architect.

So far, the materials here far exceeds what I expected, but I'm preparing myself for the worse when the balconies start

Excellent video on the subject, by About Here, from Vancouver:

I hate to gatekeep, but do these London projects really belong here?

    Toronto Pinnacle One Yonge | 351.85m | 106s | Pinnacle | Hariri Pontarini

I'm just glad Pinnacle didn't hire aA for this one. Imagine a copy pasted wraparound balcony design X3 a la Casa directly on the waterfront. Shudders...

If your attention span is so limited that you think the US only started behaving this way when Trump came into power, idk what to tell you. Elbows up crowd when the US bombs, invades, and terrorizes for decades: Nothing Elbows up crowd when Trump says something stupid: BOYCOTT! I agree that...

Is this Toronto's first Mass Tuned Damper, or are there other such installations? 🤔

    Toronto Park Road | 97.43m | 28s | Capital Developments | Diamond Schmitt

the glass on this one looks to be really high quality/low iron. I know it's window wall based on the installation, but it looks so uniform, I actually thought it might be curtain wall from some angles

    Toronto Forma | 308m | 84s | Great Gulf | Gehry Partners

I really hope I don't jinx it by saying this, but I'm really impressed with how well the panels are aligned in relation to each other. Given all the creases, that's no easy task! From what I've seen thus far, the panel gaps are remarkably uniform! Also, I'm really excited to see the...

    Toronto Forma | 308m | 84s | Great Gulf | Gehry Partners

"I judge people with different opinions" is a weird take. People are allowed to evaluate based on what they've seen so far. I've already given objective rationale for why I think this is being handled less than ideal; the exposed fasteners, and poor corner handling being the most obvious signs...

looking great! this one really surpassed my expectations

    Toronto 8 Elm | 218.2m | 69s | Reserve Properties | Arcadis

I avoid any condo with wrap-around balconies. The clutter, trash, cigarette butts, bird poop is a lot. Not to mention I rarely use the balcony, yet it blocks my view 24/7. Above the ~15th floor, balconies are useless. I'm glad we're getting more curtain wall "floor to ceiling" window buildings...

    Toronto Forma | 308m | 84s | Great Gulf | Gehry Partners

I like this building/design, but the attention to detail is seriously disappointing. Exposed fasteners, clunky corner handling, poor window/cladding transitions. Comparing this to The One is wild to me. The difference in execution is appreciable even from a distance; up close, it's not even...

wrap-around balconies are the worst, laziest design choice IMO
