  1. Northern Magus

    Toronto Theatre District Residence & Riu Plaza Hotel | 156.05m | 49s | Plaza | BDP Quadrangle

If the new design included an Off- or Off-Off- Broadway sized theatre space as part of its podium, it would be a great addition to the nabe.

    Toronto Ten York Street Condos | 224.02m | 65s | Tridel | Wallman Architects

I sure wouldn't mind being wrong here, but I doubt it. Now that QQ is about to become a premier destination and with such little developable land left, it ought to be making its owners a real mint. And developing such a tight and awkward site might be costly.

    Queen's Park North Revitalization

There's also the fact that Queen's Park South still lacks a proper pedestrian promenade from College St. I'm amazed that more people haven't been hit crossing QPC over the years.
  4. Northern Magus

    Toronto Pinnacle on Adelaide | 144.47m | 46s | Pinnacle | Hariri Pontarini

I don't think the podium is high enough to dissipate wind. However I do like its design as it's markedly different from the usual podia.
  5. Northern Magus

    Toronto Union Station Revitalization | ?m | ?s | City of Toronto | NORR

Great shot from a fantastic perspective - thanks! I can't wait to see how it changes as the new Bay St towers rise over the next 8 years or so.
  6. Northern Magus

    Toronto QRC West (Queen Richmond Centre West) | 71.93m | 17s | Allied | Sweeny &Co

Fantastic building (and great shots). Hopefully a real bar-raiser than will inspire many similar projects throughout the city.
  7. Northern Magus

    Toronto Union Centre | 298m | 54s | Westbank | Bjarke Ingels Group

If they offer to put some kind of green roof on it, it's difficult to see it being refused.
  8. Northern Magus

    Toronto U of T: Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport | 51m | 6s | U of T | Patkau

Great pics! This building has a fascinating interior layout, and I'm looking forward to seeing it during the Pan Ams.

    Toronto CIBC SQUARE | 241.39m | 50s | Hines | WilkinsonEyre

This. And since any plans for what's below the surface of 45 Bay are clearly preliminary and unapproved, it's difficult to think that the streetcar loop expansion can't be worked around or integrated.
  10. Northern Magus

    Toronto Ryerson Student Learning Centre | 50.59m | 8s | Ryerson University | Zeidler

That would be Yonge north of Dundas, but not south of Queen. Most of the types of building you long for were razed in order to build our financial district. And Yonge is already in the process of building up. Most of the current scale of buildings are reflective of the city a century ago...

    Toronto Ïce Condominiums at York Centre | 234.07m | 67s | Lanterra | a—A

If you don't require an aviation licence or booking a flight plan, presumably it's no different than flying a kite. If it's not illegal, it's legal. And even if it wasn't, how would you enforce any laws prohibiting it?
  12. Northern Magus

    Toronto Ïce Condominiums at York Centre | 234.07m | 67s | Lanterra | a—A

This photo in particular really puts the condo boom into perspective imo. I count at least 10 towers visible here that weren't around 10 years ago, in addition to the renovated plaza in front of the CN Tower. On top of that, there's another three towers on the way, at least two of which will...
  13. Northern Magus

    Toronto Theatre Park | 156.96m | 47s | Lamb Dev Corp | a—A

Well there's always misrepresentation, or possibly even fraudulent misrepresentation. You'll just need something like $80-150k for legal fees, 2-6 years worth of patience, and be willing to end up on the wrong side of the costs rule if unsuccessful. Assuming you even have a meritorious case...
  14. Northern Magus

    Toronto Royal Ontario Museum | ?m | ?s | Daniel Libeskind

I like what they're going to do with the west side. The rest, not so much.
  15. Northern Magus

    Toronto CIBC SQUARE | 241.39m | 50s | Hines | WilkinsonEyre

From a logistics point of view, 16 York would seem to be the easiest of them all to start since it's already a parking lot, has a simple and straightforward design, and the crews and some machinery are already next door. It also arguably has the most transit-friendly location and the cachet of...
  16. Northern Magus

    Toronto Theatre Park | 156.96m | 47s | Lamb Dev Corp | a—A

Thanks for all the great photos! Personally I don't mind the differently coloured mech box -- potentially it could provide an interesting point of contrast, but it depends on how it meets the rest of the cladding. Despite all its detractors, and despite the fact that it wasn't finished as...
  17. Northern Magus

    Toronto L-Tower | 204.82m | 58s | Cityzen | Daniel Libeskind

Just remember that the south isn't finished. Tough to say exactly how good or bad it'll be until the remaining quarter or so of its cladding starts to go up.
