Alto - High Speed Rail (Toronto-Quebec City)

They don't lose money on Corridor flight. But when slots are limited, a 777 long haul makes more than a 737 short haul.

    Keir Starmer's United Kingdom

We've unfortunately adopted American practices of leadership contests by members. Instead of letting the caucus choose the leader. That contributes to centralization at the top. Even if it seems more democratic to the membership.

    2022/25 Russian-Ukrainian War

Read what I said carefully. They should get the exact same protection, they think Ukraine should get. They seem to have all forgotten why their countries were clamouring to get into the EU and NATO in the 90s. As seen by Richard's posts here. Maybe they need a reminder.

    Keir Starmer's United Kingdom

Actually, it's literally because their MPs are nobodies. It's harder to get a cabinet post in the UK. This means there's a lot more MPs with nothing to lose. You would see the same dynamic if our Parliament was double the size but cabinet stayed the size it is today.

    2022/25 Russian-Ukrainian War

The selfishness is truly amazing to behold. You can recognize the corruption and damage it did to Hungary. But you would happily throw Ukraine under the bus to the same. Disgusting. I stand by what I said. Hungarians, Slovaks and Czechs deserve the very same fate they would wish on Ukrainians.

    2022/25 Russian-Ukrainian War

Also, just a reminder. This conversation started with. "We should abandon Ukraine cause we have poor people here." And in a handful of posts we've moved on to "Russia will nuke us all and we'll have WWIII." Anything to push the Putin POV.

    2022/25 Russian-Ukrainian War

Why? You don't seem to have much of an opinion difference than Orban. Though, you're a lot more gullible. I'm going to bet that Viktor isn't being chicken little about Ruzzian nukes.

    2022/25 Russian-Ukrainian War

Absolutely nothing. Ukrainian drones are literally hitting Moscow. Where's the mushroom cloud over Kyiv? What's he going to do? Escalate to nuclear war that destroys Ruzzia too? Hell, every rich Ruzzian keeps their kids, wives and mistress in the very European cities they talk about nuking...

    2022/25 Russian-Ukrainian War

Finally outing yourself as a Putinist with this. Straight up Ruzzian talking points. NATO has never even so much as talked about attacking Ruzzia let alone invading. Putin resents that NATO stops his dreams of neo-Soviet expansionism. And useful idiots aid him by making a defensive alliance...

    The Climate Change Thread

Science Magazine just named the renewable surge as the breakthrough of the year. Because solar is now the world's most popular individual source of electricity. And wind has surpassed nuclear, hydro, oil and biomass as a source of power generation. In 2004, it took a year to install 1 GW of...

President Donald Trump's United States of America

Not sure about that. They got out of segregation without a civil war. There probably will be political violence. It's just not going to be a "civil war". That's hard these days without fixed dividing lines. There's liberal areas in Republican states and conservative areas in Democratic states.

    Canada and the World

This is probably something 15-20 years out. It's the "concept of a plan". But there's a whole spectrum of capabilities here. If we get landing ships for the Arctic, they'll have helos on them. The work to incorporate fighters is pointless when they can operate from land. If we're talking...

    PM Mark Carney's Canada

$22B won't pay for a full subway line in Toronto. How much is the Ontario Line coming in at? So let's quit with the hyperbole on that money "rebuilding our economy and fending off Trump". And if you think that's expensive, wait till you see what it costs when Russia wins in Ukraine. We'll...

President Donald Trump's United States of America

It's a fundamentally different problem. The Dems would have to rebuild all the state capacity that was destroyed. Firing Trumpers is easy. Political appointments (there's a few thousand in the USG) expire at the end of an administration anyway. Obvious example. Imagine trying to...

    PM Mark Carney's Canada

This is the Hungarian in you. Exorcise it. Russia will never be defeated unless Putin genuinely fears our resolve. And honestly $22B would not be a high price to pay for that. So $2B is just fine.

President Donald Trump's United States of America

Politicians everywhere find it difficult to pivot. And this group is less competent than the average Western politician. Worse when the administration tries to pivot the boss night my might actually stop the pivot. Look at their foreign policy right now. It's schizophrenic. Trump is trying...
