York Region Transit: Viva service thread

Yeah, but they can't just sit back and say "years ago we asked them about it and they said no so we haven't talked to them since". That's just a lame excuse. Councillors change, times change, and so I would expect to see at least a few attempts to open a discussion about it per political term...

York Region Transit: Viva service thread

Thanks. Some of the councillors seem to be thinking right, but the comment that "talking to Toronto is like talking to another country" is a little disturbing. I wonder if they've even tried to re-open talks about fare integration since John Tory became mayor?

York Region Transit: Viva service thread

Yes, something like: "Next stop, Richmond Hill Centre. Transfer here for connections to Viva Purple, Viva Pink, and YRT". Part of the automated stop announcement. I guess they've just added on a bunch of safety warnings in addition to it for some reason.

York Region Transit: Viva service thread

I haven't been on the Viva in a while but I can tell you that they've been doing this for years already at terminals like Richmond Hill Centre, Promenade, Finch, and York University.

    YRT/Viva Construction Thread (Rapidways, Terminals)

If you want to see detailed renderings and a (very) high-res map of the proposed campus, this is the place to go: http://yestoyork.ca/ If you right click on the site map and say "view image", you'll get the high-res version. Also found this neat little transit summary which is pretty nice:

    YRT/Viva Construction Thread (Rapidways, Terminals)

Are you referring to any plans for transit in the Downtown Markham area? Or plans relating to the new York University campus? If it's about transit in the area, the lack of info might be attributed to the fact that most of it is contingent on the Downtown Markham area to be built (in progress)...

Agreed, this sounds like a terrible idea.

York Region Transit: Viva service thread

Thanks for that update. Seems like they keep getting limited by budgets but then they keep raising fares, which drives down ridership, which leads to this: I agree, and I think generally everyone else agrees too except the decision makers at YRT.

York Region Transit: Viva service thread

If someone is busing up from Toronto I am usually obliged to swoop down and pick them up from Steeles so that they can be free from this kind of stupidity (not to mention the pathetic and ever so infuriating double fare).

    Richmond Hill Yonge Line 1 North Subway Extension | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

All I'm saying is as a bystander looking into this thread, your initial posts came across as very naive and ill informed. It took quite a number of TJ's posts to (at least IMO) get you up to speed with what everyone else's knowledge of the information in this thread is about. I agree that...

    Richmond Hill Yonge Line 1 North Subway Extension | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

It's always a bit funny when downtowners come onto this thread and start blabbing without properly reading themselves up first. But somehow by some amazing grace TJ O'Pootertoot has enough patience to wade through the mud. The only thing I'm going to add is this: I'm totally fine with LRT. I...

    Richmond Hill Yonge Line 1 North Subway Extension | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

I felt the need to quote/re-post this because I've been following this thread for long enough to see it (as you said) loop over and over and over like a broken record. It's quite sad, too, considering it just confirms that ever since the initial plan for the Yonge extension came out we've had no...

    YRT/Viva Construction Thread (Rapidways, Terminals)

Fundamentally, this is what worries me the most. A lot of people have had a hate-on for Viva since day one. Not so much because of the concept itself, but rather because of how much it has taken away from the resources of the 'normal' local YRT routes, which are now mostly just referred to as...

    YRT/Viva Construction Thread (Rapidways, Terminals)

If they're just talking about "around Viva stations", doesn't that just mean when they're physically near a station? What's wrong with that? Especially if they have to stop there anyway. There might be pedestrians crossing (unsafely) in and around stations. If they are restricted to 20km/h...

    YRT/Viva Construction Thread (Rapidways, Terminals)

I guess I can 'understand' that point of view, but I've always found it a bit of a lazy excuse to say things like "it's not in my job description" or similar. It's not my job to report when traffic signals are out of sync and cause a backup, but if I see it I try to report it. It's not part of...

    YRT/Viva Construction Thread (Rapidways, Terminals)

While I like how reporting these things on twitter seems to actually do something, I don't understand why it takes a rider to get it reported in the first place. Are the drivers that complacent that they can't even call operations and tell them about it?

York Region Transit: Viva service thread

Oh I think we were definitely talking about only Downtown Markham. Mostly because of concept art like the one under Simcoe Promenade on this guy's blog: http://jonng.wordpress.com/2006/07/22/downtown-markham-development/

York Region Transit: Viva service thread

I see no reason why they couldn't try interlocking, aside from the obvious effect of having to maintain it every few months as it sinks and sags from the weight of the buses. Unless of course they build them properly with a solid foundation.

    YRT/Viva Construction Thread (Rapidways, Terminals)

I bet that change has more to do with the typical back to school fall schedule changes than any rapidway induced reasons... For now. I sure hope they keep an eye on performance and tune things as needed.
