General cycling issues (Is Toronto bike friendly?)

These are games that he will more than happily play and win as red meat for his base, and because they're popular outside of downtown. He thrives on this kind of conflict, and probably makes him more popular. The only solution here is an electoral defeat of Ford and Fordism. The first one will...

    2024 United States presidential election

I haven't seen a study, but just general gut feel makes me think the right talks way more about gender than the left.

    2024 United States presidential election

Meh, being a little lazy is not a bad thing. Not everyone can get obscenely rich, and in America, I would bet that the poorest people there are doing worse than the poorest in most European countries, and we should judge societies on the quality of life of the poorest 2%, not the richest. As...

    Cycling infrastructure (Separated bike lanes)

One thing I wonder if Bonnie Crombie would be against this. She needs to win the 905 and I'm sure this legislation will be popular there. Once introduced, it may be law for quite a while unfortunately.

    Cycling infrastructure (Separated bike lanes)

Well, the thinking is the harsh austerity measures the feds take under Poilievre will make people want more spending from the province. The flaw there of course, is that it takes some time for the pain to filter through. I don't think the fed election will have impact on the provincial...

Roads: Gardiner Expressway catch-all, incl. Hybrid Design (2015-onwards)

Yes, but people see these price signals as taxes anyways, and why it's unpopular. And they will be gone soon, so I think we can safely say that they don't work in the long run. Your making people choose between paying more for what they're already doing, or make potentially undesirable changes...

Roads: Gardiner Expressway catch-all, incl. Hybrid Design (2015-onwards)

Yes, but all of that requires money. All I'm saying is the government needs to make it easier to make the right choice. The subsidies on some of the insulation and window replacement is great, we need more of that.

Roads: Gardiner Expressway catch-all, incl. Hybrid Design (2015-onwards)

While that's probably true in most scenarios, I wonder if that applies to the GTA in particular, since housing mobility is so limited. And more effective in what though? Sure, we can probably make it so that a driver who drives to work in 45 minutes takes transit for 75 minutes instead because...

Roads: Gardiner Expressway catch-all, incl. Hybrid Design (2015-onwards)

Hey, I agree with you there, but the current economic situation makes the feelings easy to stir up. We'd probably meet our climate goals better by building more transit, more nuclear and renewables, and subsidizing peoples switch to EVs (ala Norway). And, most people aren't moving to suburbs...

Roads: Gardiner Expressway catch-all, incl. Hybrid Design (2015-onwards)

Yeah, they're going to be paying a lot for gas already. No wonder they're angry at the carbon tax, and would be furious at any tolls. They can't afford it. But they also don't have a choice, except move out of the GTA, which is what many are doing, and that's going to cause much bigger problems...

    PM Justin Trudeau's Canada

Anything can happen in politics, but, it would take something extraordinary to change the course here. People want drastic change, and empty promises are not going to do it this time.

    PM Justin Trudeau's Canada

While that's great in theory, an election now means the PCs win, which is not what the constituents of the Bloc or NDP want. The NDP might have some fanciful idea that they can win, but they won't. The reality is, there will be a 2-3 term conservative majority government, and the leadership of...

Roads: Gardiner Expressway catch-all, incl. Hybrid Design (2015-onwards)

Not to mention, tolling impacts the poorer middle class population the most, which is the demo that all political parties must at least appear to be catering too. And the problem there if course, is that people in this group cannot afford to live in a family size home with good transit...

    PM Justin Trudeau's Canada

Yes, but this only works because we (the West), have no answer for this anymore. Our car companies don't know how to make cars (especially EVs) for good prices that people want to drive. Government subsidization in industries happens here as well, it's just the complete collapse of innovation...

    PM Justin Trudeau's Canada

Ah yes, forgo working on what is the most urgent issue of our time AND ensuring Western companies can't compete globally on new tech with China. Best move ever!

    Toronto Lower Don Lands Redevelopment | ?m | ?s | Waterfront Toronto

100% . But, I took a quick look at Google Maps, having never been to Hamburg before, and it seems this area has 3 subway stops, and 2 subway lines nearby and a RER just on the border, and at least 2 bus lines crossing through. That is a level of transit that is rare in our city, and not anything...

Road Safety & Vision Zero Plan

I'm not generally a good is the enemy of perfect kind of guy, but, I think delaying this until after the pilot should be the goal, because, if we can't get Kensington pedestrianized, where can it happen? This will also be a model for opposition on how to kill these proposals. Not doing anything...

    PM Justin Trudeau's Canada

Yes, liberals are also beholden to big business. And yes, I think the current situation shows how hard the problem is to solve given it's the primary reason for their bad poll numbers, yet only minor changes are being made
  19. G

    PM Justin Trudeau's Canada

I'm actually quite interested in how the CPC will actually "solve" immigration. Yes, they are full of nativists, but the party is beholden to big business which won't want the gravy train to end. They're definitely creating a trap for themselves. My guess would be more secrecy and obfuscation...

    Toronto Union Station Revitalization | ?m | ?s | City of Toronto | NORR

But a similar argument can be made for people taking a VIA. Say they come from the subway. They are in union station. Should they not have information relevant to them? At least they're in the correct building. And yes, the reason they should show the train schedule is because it's a train...
