Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

I though Wilson yard can be expanded to serve all additional trains, provided that Concept 2A or 2B is selected (direct link between Yonge and Sheppard West). Is that not the case actually (not enough space left in / next to the Wilson yard)?

    Toronto Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

Just rename it "Former Science Centre" 😖

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

In theory it can, if the operational rules are twisted that way. If one sets a lower limit on LRT speed compared to the street / bus speed, plus requires it to stop-and-proceed at every switch / crossover, etc. I am not saying that will happen. In fact I hope the common sense prevails and the...

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

My guess, this is the reason they didn't present "Concept 4": east to Morningside and west to Sheppard West at the same time. They know they have to do something about the train yard. Either they do the western section and gain a direct access to Wilson yard - Concepts 2A and 2B. Or, they push...

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

There is value in that, for sure. But the matter is jurisdictional; TTC will not serve any areas north of Steeles, unless YRT asks them to do so, and pays for the service.

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

For the eastern side, my preference is 2A (to Sheppard&McCowan). However, if 2B (to STC) is chosen, then as some already pointed out, the inconvenience north of the 401 can be partly mitigated by running bus 85 past McCowan and all the way to Kennedy Stn (or wherever the subway diverts from...

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

160 Bathurst North will probably get cancelled altogether. Its role north of Steeles is to serve New Westminister Dr (the northmost part) and Atkinson Ave. Once Yonge North subway is ready - well before any Line 4 extension - YRT will likely replace that service with its own route that connects...

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

Indeed, it would be hard to cross the Humber valley where Sheppard Ave ends at Weston Rd. But, the line can swing down to Wilson and further to the 401 corridor, using the strip between Hwy 400 and the CP line. Once joined the 401 corridor, the subway would cross Humber using a new bridge...

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

I don't believe the western segment will be extended from Sheppard West to Downsview GO just to avoid the extra transfer. Although that would look good on the map, the actual number of transfers between the Barry GO service and the subway Line 4 will not be that large. And those who need to...

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

That's true. The Sheppard subway's connection to Lakeshore is certainly not the top priority, there are many projects in other parts of the city that should be done before that. Perhaps in a distant future .. thinking of that project as a new GO line (in the 401 corridor, and a lot cheaper per...

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

That's a possibility. But, requires much more frequent Stouffville line service to be practical for that kind of trips. If the Stouffville trains run every 10 min or better, then sure, take LSE to Scarborough GO, then a Stouffville train north to Agincourt, then the Sheppard subway either west...

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

Indeed, there aren't many local destinations or density there to fill the subway with riders. Certainly not north of the 401. However, there would be some benefit in connecting the east end of Sheppard subway to the Lakeshore East GO line. That would create the possibilities of transit trips...

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

I just voted: marked 2A "Very Positive", the other 3 options "Positive". Added stations at Birchmount and Midland (I know, my vote probably won't change anything).

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

Maybe; if you only look at connecting Malvern Centre to UTSC. But, the Neilson - Sheppard - Morningside route would also serve those riders who want to go from Malvern Centre to the subways, taking the shortest path. Traffic is not a big issue, if LRT runs in the middle lanes and never in mixed...

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

Bayview? The subway already exists between Yonge and Don Mills; Bayview is in the middle of it. Do you mean "Subway from Sheppard West to Victoria Park"? Not likely to happen either, but at least technically possible.

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

However, still suprised that they placed the terminus at Sheppard & Morningside in Concept 3. Shouldn't it be at Sheppard & Neilson instead? A bit cheaper to build, and better integrated with the proposed EE LRT (the latter would be routed from Malvern Centre via Neilson - Sheppard -...

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

At first I was surprised that they present 4 options, when logically there are 6. The missing options are: - Going to STC in the East, no extension in the West - Going to Morningside & Sheppard in the East, and going to Sheppard West in the West After a bit of thinking, I feel they probably...

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

^ I think, 50 kph average speed is out of question. On the other hand, 40 kph (or perhaps 41-42 kph) might be possible for a wide stop spacing.

As little as possible is .. BRT.

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

I'd like to see that option explored. Switching from one type of high-flloor trains to another type of high-floor shouldn't cost too much. There will be some up-front costs, but then the cost of expanding the line both east and west will be lower. And, a longer line will get more riders...
