407 Rail Freight Bypass/The Missing Link

Paul, great thoughts as usual. This IS the type of messy project the CIB was intended (in its ideal state) to facilitate. Question is whether the new regime is ready to think bigger. Just to clarify, my thinking on redevelopment of land was intended to keep a transit corridor at a minimum, so...

407 Rail Freight Bypass/The Missing Link

Two thoughts: 1) could the freight bypass get done with CIB investment? CP gains capital $$ from land sales, and instead of future operating costs they pay usage fee on expanded CN corridor (how CN is compensated has to come into play). CP will make more than enough in redevelopment...

    Toronto Eglinton Line 5 Crosstown West Extension | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

So I guess that line could dive underground and T into the tunnel for ECLRT W just west of the Martin Grove station. But if it's surface coming up from Kipling along the corridor, do you run it above-ground under the 427, give Rangoon a surface stop, and join Crosstown once it comes above...

    GO Transit Electrification | Metrolinx

If I'm not mistaken, I think the electrification also requires some lowering of track at some underpasses to give catenary clearance. I seem to recall a published document that noted all the adjustments that would have to be made on Kitchener, as an example.

    Toronto 1480 Jane | 25.6m | 6s | SmartStop Self Storage | WPT Architecture

The original surface option for the Jane LRT would've had a stop at Denison/Trethewey, but the more likely underground option did not (closest to the south at Weston/Jane). The 1480 planning documents show 2 other future developments on the land beside this storage facility...I wonder if either...

    Toronto Richview Square | 103.75m | 31s | Trinity Group | B+H

As a steering committee member of different Toronto residents' association, it's frustrating to see both the language on that group's page (still using the term ratepayers, and associating building typography with safety) and the singular focus on one application. The reality is a lot of RAs...

Toronto Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport Pedestrian Tunnel | ?m | ?s | Ports Toronto | Arup

With an investor owning the terminal, they'd try to attract Air Canada or someone else to take up the slots if Porter de-camped. Everyone didn't make the investment in that airport infrastructure to fold up shop.

    TTC: Streetcar Network

It wasn't so much a lowball, but that others had to factor into their price the cost of building Canadian manufacturing facilities to meet content requirements.

    Toronto Eglinton Line 5 Crosstown West Extension | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

That was my point....not that the school would be connected, but they could sell development rights on their property that could be connected, giving the TDSB some much needed cash.

    Toronto Eglinton Line 5 Crosstown West Extension | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

There are two opportunities here for the TDSB to get some money to inject into two high schools that have FSIs of 50% in Richview Collegiate Institute and Martin Grove Collegiate Institute. They could very easily develop part of their land with direct connections to the underground stations...

    407 Transitway

All I'm saying is, I have a hard time seeing the 407 transitway hitting 30 second peak period headways in the 30 year-lifecycle of the initial road bed construction. Just meaning you likely don't need to 'future-proof' for LRT at this time. And you could even get into bi-articulated buses too...

    407 Transitway

That's the thing....for a system like this, wouldn't platooning and autonomous electric buses cover most of the future capacity needs?

    Toronto Cloverdale Mall Redevelopment | 141.5m | 41s | QuadReal | Giannone Petricone

Sherway's plans for infill development show a 'Transit Hub' in the NW of the site...so really you could direct a subway there from through Obico or not. The placement is tidy for a streetcar loop of Queensway though.

    Toronto Cloverdale Mall Redevelopment | 141.5m | 41s | QuadReal | Giannone Petricone

Minor point, but I'm guessing that the access point in the SW corner (that goes under the 427 ramp) has been maintained as a dedicated underground truck/deliveries entrance for the whole site?

Richmond Hill Yonge Line 1 North Subway Extension | Metrolinx

Most cost effective is probably a Queensway LRT extension all the way to Hurontario, with a spur down Brown's Line to Long Branch, with a Line 2 terminus at Sherway, and a new western streetcar barn built into the western subway yard complex at Obico. You could run the subway to Sherway via the...

    Toronto 1455 Royal York Road | 14.08m | 3s | UrbinCo | S&C Architects

They tore the old gas station down some time ago...good to see some movement.

    Toronto 1801 Eglinton Avenue West | 141.83m | 41s | KingSett Capital | BDP Quadrangle

Did Metrolinx acquire this property as a part of Crosstown?

    Transit Fantasy Maps

To reply to comment from the Yonge North thread re: Milton line, if we ever get a Jane LRT (the bus lanes will likely help prove its usefulness), I think it would make sense to have a 'Lambton' stop added after Kipling to make an interchange...Jane LRT, extended St. Clair streetcar, and GO Milton.

    Toronto Ontario Line 3 | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

Land acquisition is not something typically transferred to the private sector, so Metrolinx would expropriate and identify the MSF first. The contractor would optimize the design within the site.

    Toronto Ontario Line 3 | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

Phase 2 couldn't really be deferred, as if they are going for different vehicles than the TTC, then they will require a new yard, and that's planned for an industrial property in the Leaside/Thorncliff area. Even if they somehow struck a deal to take over Greenwood, they'd need to pay for TTC's...
