So true,dt_toronto_geek. Certainly the Winners store/Club Monaco/Gap/Nike etc. These are all non high-end stores. I walk to them all the time because it's so close. But for many neighborhoods this is a easy bike ride.

Thanks interchange42. If the proposed tower goes up to the east side of Casa then I will lose much of my Uptown view. I think One Bloor is going to take away the chunk of sky between Uptown and BSN also. But I don't mind. I enjoy watching the changes.

Yes, it seems Mike Meyers knew a lot about Toronto gay bars when that movie came out. There is also a scene where they are chased thru a leather bar called the Toolbox. But the Comrades in the movie is referring to the former Komrads with a "K" which is now the location of Yonge St. Fitness...

The Grand Hive was for many years called Angelini's I think. Italian food. At some point it was also called The Kremlin( a lesbian bar) but only for 6 months at most.

    Church-Wellesley Village

When the condo at Church/Alexander was proposed there was fear that the condo owners would be opposed to events like Pride/Fetish Fair etc.. which bring disruption and noise. Luckily most of the owners were gay and nothing came of it. This new proposal at Church/Dundonald will likely raise...

I simply meant that the sidewalk appears to be at it's widest at this location unlike the "cut-in" at Pusateri's. Unfortunately cars will stop there for pick-up/drop-off weather there is a cut-in or not just as they do everywhere in the city.

I may have missed this being discussed before but a reliable source told me that the owner of William Ashley lost lot's of money fighting for the right to have a cut in the sidewalk for cars. Similar to what Pusateri's on Bay has for customer pick-up and drop-off. I think there's a name for...

    Church-Wellesley Village

Great article Dark Star. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. It's true that retail and restaurants are fickle and ever changing but the essence of the neighbourhood can never be lost. In the mindset of the city this area will always be the gay village. By the way, those embedded gold street...

and the coating of pigeon poop was the other reason the mural came down. Don't we have the technology yet to make pigeons poop oil or natural gas?

    Church-Wellesley Village

There has been a persistent rumor the past few days that the ROB fetish retailer from Europe is going to enter the North American market with a store in the old Crews/Tango space. Makes some sense because some of their stores in Europe also have accommodations above them. This locations would...

This has happened a number of times before with Statlers. It was blamed on a boiler issue last time, so they may come back again. But the place has terrible service as others have stated. It's always a struggle to get a drink, you have to practically beg for one. On one occasion the waiter took...

    Church-Wellesley Village

The former Church St. Diner at 555 Church St. now has a notice in the window that a mortgage company has taken over the building. The locks have been changed and no tress passers allowed. I guess a year and a half of being closed isn't good for any business. Are the Restaurant Makeover people...
