You are right. FCP is a much taller and wider bldg. and sits west of Bay St., not east. TD towers can be seen to the west of Bay St.

Bay Adelaide Centre West Tower (Brookfield, 50s, WZMH)

You are WRONG on that one. I think in SSP and SSC we have discussed the issue Ad Nauseam. Stop misleading the uninformed; the US measures Metropolitan Area in a much more generous way than Canada! If we applied the same standards, then the Golden Horseshoe area should be used on par with US...

What I meant about being more global, was about being more aware of what's out there internationally before making uninformed grand statements. Caltrane was talking about Yonge/Dundas being unique in density and concentration of downtown malls, when in fact it's not the case, not even close...

No, you don't win. Firstly, let me hold your hand again to find the store directory: go to http://www.siamparagon.co.th/v3/index2.html Then on the left, click on shopping guide, then on directory. To the right you will find store list per level. Click on MF the luxury. The list is pretty...

You just want to be antagonistic for the sake of being antagonistic, don't you? 1) First, we can see from the websites I showed the links to, that it is not a "Dixie Mall" but a rather higher end place, and that there are many shopping centres of good quality in Bangkok, not only Siam Paragon...

    "Dixie Mall", I think not: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siam_Paragon http://www.bangkok.com/shopping-mall/siam-paragon-siam-paragon-overview.html http://www.bangkok.com/shopping-mall/siam-paragon.html http://www.siamparagon.co.th/v3/index2.html

C'mon guys. Let's be more global. This was posted by forum member Cacruden on 01-28-2008, page 231 of this thread: "My problem is that after returning from Bangkok, Toronto's shopping will be totally unimpressive. Where I am now, the Shopping around the Siam section of the sky walk...

Head of Slips (Waterfront Toronto, West 8/DTAH)

I like the overall look and concept of the whole thing. I'm really not sure about the benches being so close to the water, though. Hopefully, dumb ass skateboarders don't trash the place with their stupid pseudo "sport" the way they trash and destroy any public space they get their skatebords...

    Toronto Minto775 King West | ?m | 17s | Minto Group | Hariri Pontarini

The place was an eyesore. It constituted an ugly void in the continous streetscape along King West. It is no longer an industrial area, so Paul Wolf's exit was inevitable. They did the right thing, as opposed to the abatoir two blocks south which still refuses to sell and move on... In regards...

    Shabby Toronto

I think it is an undeniable fact that some parts of Toronto do look shabby and unkept. Number one in the list are all those overhead power lines (not including TCC streetcars wires, of course), and all those unsightly wood poles with transformers and all. I do not recall any major city in the...

The point of the thread was to show a city that is very similar to us in a societal and geographical sense, but that in contrast to us, has a very long tradition (since the late 1800's) of great architecture and good urban design. Is that so difficult to understand? If you knew the place I...

I agree with Tewder. Toronto is a very good city with a great potential of becoming a great city that, unfortunately, does not get realized due to mediocre, cheap, non-visionary thinking and design. For those who think everything is peachy and criticize those who complain and point out our...

    Toronto Murano | ?m | 45s | Lanterra | a—A

I think what people in this forum have in mind when they have criticised the glazing is that when compared to the rendering where the vertical mullions seem to be almost not visible (butt-joint Curtain Wall system-similar to the RBC Centre on Simcoe St.) the actual glazing being used is the so...

C'mon! That was a typo... I meant to say Thailand IS A... Is that all you have to comment on? Jeez

I work in the architecture profession so I am familiar with the construction industry. I think one of the issues besides developers (Penequity is a good example) that want to maximize profits at the expense of great architecture, is contractors that do the same. So when a design is proposed that...

Thank you for your rational and pragmatic optimism, it's refreshing. Just don't go to Bangkok to see Siam Paragon :)

Thank you very much for the information about Siam Paragon. I went to their website and it looks pretty cool. The other developments nearby look amazing, as well. That shows that we don't need to go the "capitals of the world" (London, Paris, NYC, Tokio) to see cool development. This is in...

Thank you, TonyV. I know it is a complex issue. I lived in the US for several years, and I know the quality of the built environment, with a few exceptions, is also an issue there and an uphill battle, especially in suburbia where most people in the US live.

Interesting point... I guess the social dynamics and social policies in our society have contributed more to the vibrancy of downtown Toronto than our substandard built environment.
