Everyone's favourite Cable 10 show, Structures, is doing a Corktown segment in 2 weeks! http://www.rogerstv.com/option.asp?lid=12&rid=16&sid=129&cdate=1/22/2009 I don't have cable, let me know how it goes.

Are moderator's even necessary on an urban architecture forum? Don't take yourself too seriously dude, it's "the internet". Relax.

Based on the projects I've seen from them so far, I doubt we'll be seeing cheap throw-ups. I think it's important we preserve the existing history in this part of the city, but also work with the modern quirks that have been added. The concrete highway exits that zoom over the community and the...

Funny you should mention the burger trio - I agree they are pretty good. It's pretty funny that their normal burger stink though. The salads are terrible with watery dressing and the daily specials are gross and grossly over priced. I just wish they had a more regular pub menu with normal prices.

Corktown District (King & Sumach, Streetcar, to 6s, Quadrangle)

I'm so glad this is finally happening. The most recent delays were blamed after the extreme weather conditions, but they've been moving steady for about a week now. The Sumach / Bright site seems to be the parking lot for their rigs. They've also been "de-rooting" some of the mature trees, but...

Calling Corktown "bizzaro world" is perfect! There's no question that the DVP off-ramps have in some ways butchered the old neighbourhood, but it's also what gives it its character. As for the Dominion pub, the food is shit and over priced, but the local beer on tap in incredible. And as...

Our place dates back to 1861. I couldn't believe it wasn't already a heritage site.

Does anyone know what's happening with the houses next to Trinity Church? Dates back to 1844 but I don't think it's a heritage site, as most houses are not in Corktown.

what about the smaller studio style building right next to the BGM? There's a bunch of construction permits on the door. Wonder what's going on there. One of the SOLD properties is right next to the future Sackville / King restaurant. It's one of the old 3 story brownstones. Maybe not...

Digging for both King projects commenced 3 days ago. I also received a notice that said 2 mature trees were going to be derooted and later replanted on the Bright Street townhouse site, but they were straight up cut down by the city. Very upsetting. The King strip from Sackville to Sumach is...

At the corner of King / Sackville, across from the big pink auto body shop, a former auto body shop is turning into a restaurant. I have no idea what kind though. I just remember a city bylaw permit for rezoning was in the window in December, and they're starting to gut the place now. Does...

I didn't suspect they'd be bringing in a larger store. I meant a RABBA or something like that. A local place to pick up some produce and rent a movie. That's the one thing Corktown / Rivwerside doesn't have.

does anyone know if any of the proposed corktown district buildings will be bringing in a grocery store?

Corktown District (King & Sumach, Streetcar, to 6s, Quadrangle)

I've noticed trucks coming in and out of the Bright Street entrance (street behind Sumach where they're laying a few townhouses). Looks like some activity has finally begun.

Gilead Place finally checked out Jamie Kennedy's new http://www.gileadcafe.ca Best pulled pork sandwich in the city (and I've had some really good ones) They also have a daily poutine, which is rad. It's really amazing to see the laneways and warehouses in Corktown come alive the way...

    West Don Lands

This is also the area where the Don River Park will be (as well as roads) so the steel grid won't be interfering with any digging. Part of the flood protection plan is to slope the park upwards, by the DVP. Will this be a dramatic slope that will require some sort of retaining wall, or are...
