Toronto Ontario Court of Justice Toronto | 95.7m | 17s | Infrastructure ON | Renzo Piano

I have cited the Paris Courthouse as an example of what RPBW is capable of. But the question remains if you are not going to go the distance then why bother employing him at all?

Toronto Ontario Court of Justice Toronto | 95.7m | 17s | Infrastructure ON | Renzo Piano

Another missed opportunity. You'd think that in employing one of the world's most renowned architects, Infrastructure Ontario would go the distance in creating a set piece for such a visible site. The massing does nothing to complement the curves of City Hall. It is a box, another stupid box...

The good, the bad, the ugly and the cheap: Critique today's condo architecture.

FYI -From Harper's Magazine, July 2018 The Death of a Once Great City The fall of New York and the urban crisis of affluence https://harpers.org/archive/2018/07/the-death-of-new-york-city-gentrification/

    Toronto Sidewalk Toronto at Quayside | ?m | ?s | Sidewalk | Snøhetta

FYI - Politco Magazine just ran this story. Google Is Building a City of the Future in Toronto. Would Anyone Want to Live There? It could be the coolest new neighborhood on the planet—or a peek into the Orwellian metropolis that knows everything you did last night...

    Toronto U of T: Schwartz Reisman Innovation Centre (Phase 1) | 64.8m | 13s | U of T | Weiss/Manfredi

Now that is a thing of beauty. The massing is compelling and bold. If the design holds through the process it will be both the materials and window treatments that will take this to the next level. I see two different window treatments on each side so it is likely the design is still pretty...

    Toronto One Delisle | 155m | 44s | Slate | Studio Gang

Wow, this is a huge deal to have Gang involved. Kudos to Slate for taking this step.

    Toronto River City Condos Phase 3 | 99.66m | 29s | Urban Capital | Saucier + Perrotte

Saucier Perrotte on the waterfront would be really nice to see someday.

    Toronto Minto Westside | 68.88m | 20s | Minto Group | Wallman Architects

I'm getting that tingling 'bait and switch' feeling in my gut from this project. Hoping for the best though.

HP hitting another one out of the park. Looks good, looks real good.

    Toronto Sugar Wharf Condominiums (Phase 1) | 231m | 70s | Menkes | a—A

I am not here to be troublesome however there needs to be more clarity as to how the quote that will be deleted conflicts with the present Rules of Conduct. I have written nothing personally offensive. The comment was both "legible", "strong" and "meaningful to the thread." It was written in...

    Toronto Sugar Wharf Condominiums (Phase 1) | 231m | 70s | Menkes | a—A

I have forwarded the DRP email to Oxford, Menkes, and Pinnacle. If any of you wish to join me in expressing your concerns regarding this critical juncture in Toronto's development their addresses are the following: designreviewpanel@toronto.ca maxxsupport@oxfordproperties.com info@menkes.com...

    Toronto Sugar Wharf Condominiums (Phase 1) | 231m | 70s | Menkes | a—A

I will refer you to the Design Review Panel's stated mandate to advance this conversation: The Design Review Panel (DRP) is comprised of private sector design professionals – architects, landscape architects, urban designers and engineers – who provide independent, objective advice to city...

    Toronto Sugar Wharf Condominiums (Phase 1) | 231m | 70s | Menkes | a—A

You have essentially defined the problem. That does not mean that we have to accept it. Who else is there but the Design Review Panel. If it is powerless then the city is at the mercy of sub standard developers. That is the intent of the message. Something has to give. The status quo is...

    Toronto Sugar Wharf Condominiums (Phase 1) | 231m | 70s | Menkes | a—A

For what it's worth, I have sent the following email to the Toronto Design Review Panel: To the members of the Design Review Panel, There continues to be concern by interested citizens at the quality of form and design in many of the new builds in the Toronto region. Architecture is a shared...

    Toronto Sugar Wharf Condominiums (Phase 1) | 231m | 70s | Menkes | a—A

If this is a sign of things to come then Sugar Wharf should be renamed 'Nutrasweet Wharf'. After all the hard work put in by Waterfront Toronto and city planning to salvage its waterfront, to lay out infrastructure and sew new neighbourhoods together, Toronto once again is taken to the cleaners...

    Toronto The HUB | 258.46m | 59s | Oxford Properties | Rogers Stirk Harbour

I'm sorry to say but I don't like the massing on this design. RSH+p are excellent architects don't get me wrong, but a building with such lakeside prominence could be more eye catching than this. RSH+p are known for their iconic buildings why can't they do it here? 3 World Trade or The...

    Toronto 2 St Thomas | 80.46m | 26s | KingSett Capital | Hariri Pontarini

Hats off to HP once again. 2 St. Thomas' use of stone is a classy complement to the building next door (is it the McKinsey Offices?). Though they seem to be short a few trees on Charles Street (as per the renders) the street level design on St. Thomas creates a relaxed and calming atmosphere.

Toronto Kings Club at King High Line | 57.6m | 18s | First Capital | Kasian

King's Club has turned out to be a pleasant surprise. The massing and form as revealed by Interchange's photos from above are excellent. I am also impressed by the surface treatment on the bare walls. I did not have high expectations for this one. Urban Capital and Kasian get points for...

    Toronto 1 Yorkville | 183.18m | 58s | Bazis | Rosario Varacalli

Tell that to Menkes. He is the one that should be taking note. Density aside, Sugar Wharf''s treatment is looking pretty ambiguous if not underwhelming at the moment. Does he excel like Harbourfront Plaza or does he fail like 33 Eglinton? We await more detailed renders.
