Considering a small town to retire to in 2030-35. Recommendations?

Oh, the gentleman doth protest too much! 😄 But honestly, when an Aunt of mine told me the current prices in Fort Erie my natural instinct was to correct her that she had accidently added an extra zero. Yikes! South of Niagara Falls, along the river down around the lake is always nice, and...

Considering a small town to retire to in 2030-35. Recommendations?

Riding the PSTR is somewhere on my bucket list, saving it for a special occasion. Port Stanley/Grand Bend were always the 2 traditional summer-day-out towns for London. However, Port Stanley is finding a niche with greater numbers of retirees so (anecdotally at least) it increasingly has some...

    I miss the 1980’s

It is mind blowing to see what was considered advanced in the early 80s. Remember a TV show called 'In Search of...' hosted by Leonard Nimoy? Yes, not all that good on facts or rigorous research, but highly amusing nonetheless! Here is what they thought the future would circa 1981. Interesting!

    Ontario Flag needs replacing

Some flags may have been recently adopted, most will have ancient symbology associated with their localities. No Union Jacks, but don't understand why they would, English counties entirely different context than N America. But I noticed Lincolnshire has the fleur-de-lis. Hope that doesn't make...

    Ontario Flag needs replacing

You are absolutely correct. Ontario is a place, not a nationality or ethnicity. Our flag can represent everyone who calls it our home, without reference to their background. In this, the flag can be of comparatively recent origin but possess symbology with historic origins. And the idea that it...

    Ontario Flag needs replacing

English counties formed mostly between the 7th and 11th centuries. The Union Jack dates from early 18th century, ....and no county flag bears a Union Jack? 🧐

    Ontario Flag needs replacing

AoD Or we end up with the Ontarian equivalent of Newfoundland and Labrador's flag... I genuinely still don't get the need. Apart from some leftover 1960's era anti-UK feeling.

    Ontario Flag needs replacing

@tripwire thanks for the compliment, "beavers with frickin' laser beams attached to their heads..." is memorable 😂😂 This discussion is both depressing and amusing. Depressing because it reminds me how shallow most Canadians are. Amusing, because it reminds me how shallow most Canadians are. We...

    Ontario Flag needs replacing

I think the recent NZ flag referendum provides some interesting material. Firstly, an irate Kiwi (New Zealander) writng a comment to The Guardian on the touchy topic of similar flags: I personally don't give a f*** that people confuse it for Australia's flag, I don't suffer from the common Kiwi...

, A far from unique problem, even internationally. Solution, make the maple leaf shield larger?

    Ontario Flag needs replacing

I agree our licence plates could’ve more exciting (logo/design) but the colours have to be practical. Blue on white easily is read and identified. U.K. plates, whilst of a standard European design (black on yellow/white) has incorporated the year of the car manufacturer.

    Ontario Flag needs replacing

Given that this thread was moribund for a couple years, then raised again late last year, I think I will add my 2 cents worth. Replace our provincial flag, why exactly? I genuinely don't get it. Could anyone help me out on this? From what I've read 'colonial' has cropped up for a reason but...
