Question: Since the glass they're using for the balconies is opaque, would it be considered spandrel?

Yes, and it's too bad they put the "club" on such a low floor. When a new condo goes up just south of them, that "club" will have no view at all, fall into disuse and end up being used for storage. Why did they stop putting observation decks on the top floors? Yes, yes, I know, the CN tower...

You've got to be kidding - Minimize swirling winds??? I live at Bloor/Yonge and since this tower is going up, that intersection is becoming a wind tunnel and will almost be as bad as Bay and King when the tower at Bloor west is up. Get away from your crap partner? Need to change partners...

I'd have to strongly agree with you there. I've looked out on downtown apartments/condos for the last 40 years and most balconies are empty or are used for storing bicycles and old boxes. I've never actually seen people using their balconies, except for the Pride parade. And there's a good...

Wow, these two are so close together you could easily carry on a conversation with someone across the way in the other building. Gives new meaning to chatting across the garden fence.

Well the Uptown has a little bit of character, although I don't think many of the units are occupied, especially in the upper section. It's mostly blacked out at night. Must be a dream for those few souls living there.

Finally, One Bloor is blocking my view of that ugly Crystal Blu monstrosity. Good riddance. Another few floors and the Manulife will be gone as well. Then, as I sail into retirement I'll have the gentle curves of One Bloor (and many others) to feast my eyes on every day.

Not only that, but the area around the intersection has become quite windy. I live across the street and walk that section quite often. I think when all the glass is in place it will only get worse, sort of like King/Bay. Guess I'll just have to keep a good hold on my hat.

Not as bad as the condo two doors east. They first put up the tower right on Bloor and in the plans showed a very nice green courtyard to the south with circular drive leading up to a private entrance. Then low and behold when they started to dig, a second tower directly south of the first...

Yes, of course. Since they added the horrible lighting affect to the tower it looks just like an old hooker wearing too much makeup and a dress that's miles too tight. No self respect whatsoever.

Isn't this the architects way of adding a bit of 'whimsy' to the structure? I mean there are two buildings on upper Jarvis that do the same thing, but with coloured spandrel, although I must admit they look more like a workman's gaff.

All kidding aside, and since no one is chiming in here with any info, I would like to offer a guess. Since directly on top of these 'slots' is the deck/garden for the condo residents, they probably don't want any exhaust vents from the retail level below mingling with their potted palms...

Can anyone tell me what this 'slot' is in this picture?

This image shows those metal forms they lay down on each floor. They almost look like some form of vent or conduit. Can anyone shed some light on what they are?

It's interesting how they do this. I watch daily from across the street. (Hope to have a camera soon so I can provide pics). They put the forms up but leave a space between them. Then they insert the rebar mesh (they come already assembled). Once in place, they snug up the forms, secure...

They're pouring now. The guy with the leaf blower was out earlier and that's usually the sign. A question though, regarding the channels they are creating as they pour the floor. What are these for? Drainage? A base for interior walls? Seems strange. They all run from the interior of...
