    TTC: Streetcar Network

Well this conversation seems to pretty much explains everything. As incentives drive behaviour and the main TTC union has roughly zero incentive to respond to customer feedback or increase satisfaction. And there's no feasible way for the union to ever be punished, even if they are the direct...

    Downtown congestion pricing system

The city has much less say regarding GO. It's nearly entirely up to the Province. Convincing a majority of MPPs for any further changes to GO is a significantly more politically challenging task. The city does however have a big say in a potential downtown congestion pricing system. And it's...

    Downtown congestion pricing system

I edited my comment a bit so I will highlight it here: In this sense, even in the extreme case that the GO network stops tomorrow, its main purpose will then serve as a tax on activities generating negative externalities and fund activities generating positive externalities. So whether or not...

    Downtown congestion pricing system

The rationale for the congestion pricing system rests mostly on its merits. As the revenue from it will be able to offset costs elsewhere, allowing for more transit, housing, parks, etc. If a lot of commuters are forced to enter the zone, because of issues with the GO network, that would mean...

Thanks, that is interesting to know, glad to see there's some interested in it.

    Downtown congestion pricing system

Thanks, but wow last post 5.5 years ago. Didn't realize it's been that long since it was last brought up.

    Downtown congestion pricing system

Please merge if there's a thread already elsewhere. There's been some talk in the news recently regarding a possible downtown congestion pricing system. So I'm posting this thread for discussions relating to how it could be organized, the expected benefits and drawbacks, pricing, effects on...

The arch motif is fun and makes good use of proximity to the GO station. I wonder how long the approvals process will take.

It's interesting that the retail space has been subdivided so much on the proposal, 502 m2 across 5 units?

Okay thanks for replying with something resembling a substantive point. I'm not sure what you meant by ''embarrass' regular citizens with their presence,' it doesn't seem likely anyone walking along has embarrassment at the top of their mind after a threatening encounter, but let's put that...

Don't see what's so bad with the cladding, it's not exactly the highest quality but at least it's clean and different from the usual. Most modern buildings look too similar at the podium so at least people walking by will never get lost.

It's probably more expensive cladding to have all those small panes of glass and definitely less energy efficient. If the intention was for the mullions to be fake add-ons to large panes of glass then it was definitely cheaper for them to get rid of them and it helps reduce cleaning costs too.

Hmm I hope their labor saving climbing rig will have make it faster than that. That in addition to the preassembled rebar supercolumns. Since at 2 weeks/floor, and 3 weeks/maintenance section, would put topping out at year end 2025, assuming no other delays. A normal 200m+ condo is about 1 week...

I will repeat: But every discussion about homeless on the internet, that I've seen, eventually turns into a virtue signalling game where conflation between different types of homeless is all but guaranteed as individuals, and factions, try to one up each other, a tragedy of the commons so to...

    Shabby Public Realm

Probably very few folks in Toronto have a serious problem with homeless people who are non-violent, polite to passerby, and respectful of city and private property. But every discussion about homeless on the internet, that I've seen, eventually turns into a virtue signalling game where...

2022 election - who is running for mayor?

Yeah I was about to say. Seems like a big iceberg hidden among otherwise fine sounding proposals.

It's true that they're working with a very constrained site.. if rearranging things alone took several weeks that must have been quite important. Is that normal for all constrained sites?

I wonder if the first few floors facing the tracks will have sound proof windows like what some airport hotels have.

Hmm so if they finished floor 7 mid-March, and finished floor 13 (or floor 14 by nominal count) just recently, and the last 4 floors were fast... then they spent 4 months on floors 8 and 9? 'Regular' hotel floors? I haven't gone through every page but that seems really weird.

...since March? it's 26 weeks from March 15 to today, I'm not sure what else you mean by 'how far back'.
