    Subway Interlining ...

I contributed to that article -- Steve has a few things wrong about the integrated system. First, the trains did not always run in their proper "batting order". Second, the illuminated signs on the upper platforms told us whether we should go downstairs to get the next eastbound (at Bay) or...

    Subway Interlining ...

In 1966, during rush hours ... the Bloor-Danforth route ran with a headway of 4 min 30 sec. the Bloor-University-Yonge route ran with a headway of 4 min 30 sec. the Danforth-University-Yonge route ran with a headway of 4 min 30 sec. FOR A COMBINED HEADWAY of 2 min 15 seconds on all parts...

    Subway Interlining ...

There will always be waits inside the wye. If the TTC expects a train to never see a red in the wye, that's pretty unrealistic. If the Bloor trains had their own tracks on University, it wouldn't be interlining.

    Subway Interlining ...

Let me get this straight ... Bloor-Yonge is a hell-hole at 8:45am, and you don't see a need for interlining the Bloor and University routes, as the original designer intended?

    Subway Interlining ...

I guess other cities can interline and we can't?

    Subway Interlining ...

That's based on today's track time. When automated, the lines will be able to accept three trains for every two running today -- that creates the extra room to add or change existing e-w trains to wye trains. Scheduling would be difficult, but not impossible.

    Subway Interlining ...

Not one in two, but one in three. Every 3rd Bloor train from the east and west goes downtown (and leaves downtown) via University in the AM and PM rushes. Service along Spadina is reduced slightly to compensate. The NEXT TRAIN OneStop screens could be used to announce the timing of the next...

    Subway Interlining ...

Once both BD and YUS are fully automated in the next few years and are able to handle more trains with smoother merging, what do you all think of the possibility of re-interlining Bloor-Danforth with University in the AM and PM rush hours through the old wye connection under Avenue Road?

    Eglinton-Crosstown Corridor Debate

The idea that an underground Eglinton LRT would be converted to a subway in the future is absolute stupidity. How could they possibly close down a line that has reached LRT capacity for YEARS to do such a conversion? How would they handle the ridership during the line's closure (which is so...

    Eglinton-Crosstown Corridor Debate

But $4.6 billion for a 4 km/hr improvement? -- even if it does increase capacity and reliability, the end result clearly does not justify the amount of money invested. There's really no way any sensible person can spin this in favor of the line. I thought the line would avg. about 30 km/hr -...

    Eglinton-Crosstown Corridor Debate

That article says the Eglinton LRT will only be 4 km/hr faster than a bus! The bus is coming in at 16-18 km/hr whereas the LRT will run at 22 km/hr (averaged across the entire route of course). If this is true and we're spending $4.6 billion for a 4 km/hr increase, Miller and Giambrone...

    Eglinton-Crosstown Corridor Debate

You would need some fancy dancy signal priority to make it from Kennedy to Pearson in 60 minutes on an Eglinton LRT. A subway with that stop spacing would just barely make it in maybe 50-55 mins. In other words, every traffic light would have to be green.

    Eglinton-Crosstown Corridor Debate

Bloor-Danforth lost money for years. It actually put the TTC in the red for the first time in its history in 1966. Ridership was about 120k per day in its first year. Divide that by 2 to get the length of Sheppard, and you get about 60k per day. Sheppard is not that far off from this...

    Eglinton-Crosstown Corridor Debate

I would build the Downtown DRL up to Eglinton at both ends and connect them along Eglinton itself, forming a continuous square-shaped route, replacing the underground Eglinton LRT section with a subway. The DRL would run down to Queen and across Queen. Union really isn't the best place for it...

    Eglinton-Crosstown Corridor Debate

It should just be built as a subway, with wye connections to the Spadina and Yonge subways for some downtown-inbound/outbound rush-hour services -- that would be best. Unfortunately, the TTC is what I call an "LRT fashionista". Due to a steady dose of nagging from a certain transit advocate...

    Eglinton-Crosstown Corridor Debate

I can't believe that people here actually think that they would close the Eglinton LRT down for years to convert it to a subway, even if the existing line reached capacity. It will never happen.

    Eglinton-Crosstown Corridor Debate

Metrolinx plays the fiddle, and Miller and Giambrone will dance. Metrolinx has already stated it will retain ownership of all new lines in the RTP, and that includes Eglinton. And, there are persistent rumors that they will enter into a PPP arrangement with Bombardier to operate the Eglinton...
