The model he uses is works for metro areas with little commuting population - ex london- Hamilton. Not related but :There would a very high commuting ridership from Kitchener - guelph

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

OK I found the thing I was mentioning from the Initial Business case for the Kitchener Line: "Travel between Kitchener / Waterloo and Guelph is the second largest market on the corridor. An estimated 32,000 trips are made each day between these cities." "The third largest market is the long...

the main concern is that go will say "our private partners have covered that route "and refuse to add trips for a long time

    General railway discussions

agree with Kevin, - There has been a lot of discussion on Waterloo Region Connected (sister site of UT) about why ion is slow and the main reason agreed upon was (rather than the number of 90deg turns being the primary cause of slowness) the slow operation. Even in 70 km/h zones , drivers don't...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Prominent UW professor Brian Doucet raised frustrations about lack of kitchener-guelph, guelph-hamilton and kitchener - hamilton GO connections. This has been echoed by many others the region as well as transit enthusiast Reece Martin. I am all for @Urban Sky 's thinking that intercity buses...

Waterloo Region Transit Developments (ION LRT, new terminal, GRT buses)

stage 3 is hypothetical. It appears on regional plans. I would think that it is a BRT

Commuter and Intercity Rail in the Ottawa/Gatineau Area (fantasy thread)

Thank you @Urban Sky for this thread Here I might add my justification for a "line 5" dmu on the beachburg line: A CN Beachburg DMU line was projected to have higher ridership than the original o train pilot (line2) in the same document that ended up proposing the otrain line 2. (link...

I think funding for ion 2 should be contingent on waterloo adopting presto,. Same with guelph for all day go

    General railway discussions

Both Conestoga and fairview park malls are large bus terminals. There is a lot of projects in the works beside them. @crs1026 I think its important to consider that the ion had higher prepandemic ridership than the bathurst streetcar (25K vs 20K). Sure the Bathurst streetcar is shorter but it...

    General railway discussions

from where?? from uw to Conestoga the ion takes 10 minutes and driving takes 8 minutes. The 201 ( bus route which travels this) does it in 17 minutes according to google maps. from waterloo town center to Conestoga the ion takes 14 minutes and driving takes 7-16 minutes. The 7 ( bus route...

@kEiThZ while I do not want to spam Tillsonburg with rail when it is not warranted ( the existing Tillsonburg intercommunity bus serves the places where Tillsonburgers : go see 2016 data below). I must say though that the railfan fantasys one sees in the via subforum are much more wild than a...

    General railway discussions

I Disagree: When literal Exurbs like Caledon and Bowmanville are clamouring for GO ( last time I checked these aren't the most progressive areas), I think many people want train services

    Moose Rail (National Capital Region)

@DirectionNorth. otrain line 2 is technically a "commuter rail" by any books. Just a really good one which has LRT frequencies. They even used european regional trains. When I refer to a commuter rail, I refer to a dmu that comes every 10 minutes- not Milton line style.

    Moose Rail (National Capital Region)

@kEiThZ the link: https://app06.ottawa.ca/calendar/ottawa/archives/rmoc/Regional_Council/09Sep98/Light.pdf . It doesn't? I was not responding to ARG's comment for a downtown station but the implication that "With the O-Train extensions going so deep into the suburbs, there's no real case for...

    Moose Rail (National Capital Region)

I know @Urban Sky doesn't like close station spacing, but a Mooney's bay Via Station could have merit by allowing an easier transfer to line 2 , airport and many other destinations.

    Moose Rail (National Capital Region)

@kEiThZ Did you know that a cn beachburg DMU line was projected to have higher ridership than the original o train pilot (line2) in the same document that ended up proposing the otrain line 2. I believe that there were over 15K riders /day proposed, and this was in 2000! Now that lines 1,2,3...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

is it feasible to have some trains from bramalea go to the airport (reverse on the the airport branch) then turn to UP trains at the airport to continue to union? . this would: 1) solve the issue of the UP taking away track slots to bramalea 2) give the west an easy ride to the airport 3) de...
