Toronto Spadina Subway Extension Emergency Exits | ?m | 1s | TTC | IBI Group

In actual news, the first major contract, for Sheppard West Station and tunnelling up to Finch, is now out for tender. There are pretty detailed descriptions of each work package at that link. I'm guessing it'll be $290 M.

TTC: Dufferin Station Modernization (TTC, U/C)

I went to Dufferin Mall for the first time in a while last week and there was no sign of construction at the station - kind of disappointing. Usually the contractor at leasts puts their name up somewhere I thought.

Your experiences with the 2010 Museum subway diversion (May 22–25, Aug 14-15)

Looks like this will be happening again sooner than anyone would've expected or hoped. http://www3.ttc.ca/Service_Advisories/Route_diversions/BloorDanforth_Weekend_Closure.jsp Weekend of August 14/15

    Toronto Union Pearson Express | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | MMM Group Limited

Hopefully this means the fares will be cheaper... who knows. At least we're not spending hundreds of millions so SNC can make a nice profit.

    Yonge subway delays and construction

There's been a slow order on the Keele bridge for over a year now - even though it seems like they finished the repairs and the project was taken off the website. Kind of frustrating when they don't seem to be doing anything.

    Eglinton-Crosstown Corridor Debate

That spring 2011 date for start of tunnelling seems wildly optimistic. The TYSSE won't start tunnelling til then, and that project was fully funded more than 3 years ago.

Toronto Union Subway Station: Second Platform and Concourse Improvements | ?m | ?s | TTC | IBI Group

From this TTC report: Looks like the total estimate was really about $180M. So if you add in engineering and PM costs to the $150M then this might be close to what it should be.

    Dufferin Street: Eliminating the jog

It's pretty hyperbolic to equate traffic laws with civil liberties. I doubt people in Montreal or New York feel any less free. I'm sure you can afford the extra 10 seconds per day it'll cost you. Your name isn't Tony Clement is it?

Toronto Union Subway Station: Second Platform and Concourse Improvements | ?m | ?s | TTC | IBI Group

The bid results have been released, and they may explain why the tender was delayed for so long. Ellis-Don has the low bid at $153 M - I think the prior estimate was about $100 M. (Edit: Steve Munroputs it at $127M). Two of the four companies didn't even bid, including Vanbots who're doing the...

Why I support the TTC (sort of).

Basically, outside of Asia, every major city has transit issues, and everyone likes to think that their transit provider is the worst. People who say that the TTC is SO much worse than every major city (ie. Jaybee) really need some perspective though.

    Dufferin Street: Eliminating the jog

Yeah, that would be quite the right turn indeed. :p

Toronto Spadina Subway Extension Emergency Exits | ?m | 1s | TTC | IBI Group

Adam Giambrone just posted this on his Twitter: It seems to me that a delay to a project as large as this shouldn't be publicized in a Twitter post.... but maybe I'm stuck in the Facebook generation..

    Wi-Fi service underground

Looks like the TTC will be proceeding with this sometime in the near future - just on platforms for now. The three prequalified companies were 1. Bell Mobility Incorporated; 2. Extenet Systems (Telus); and 3. Broadcast Australia Limited (Rogers) No mention of WiFi service. Although...

TTC: Complete Subway Station Ridership Figures

I somehow found that the TTC has posted more recent subway station ridership figures for 2009-2010. I played around in Excel a bit and compared them to the 2007-2008 stats. Things I noticed: the University line saw major growth from Union to Queen's Park St Clair and St Clair West...

Metrolinx: Sheppard East LRT (In Design)

We won't be at that stage for a little while... the contract for the Agincourt grade separation is supposed to be awarded in July, so work on that should get started shortly after. The bid results are here. Low bid was $28M.

    1233 Queen East | ?m | 8s

That would be a massive overreaction - the public's going to be seeing them in a couple of months, it's not some sort of secret design or anything.

I felt it for about 5 seconds in west Mississauga.

Candidates and their subway plans... The Star tells you which one is more credible

His platform right now consists entirely of making the TTC an essential service - which will increase costs. http://www.robfordformayor.ca/issues/ Show me where expediting subway construction is in his "platform".

    Smitherman's Transit plan

That's less of a simplification then a plain ridiculous statement. You must not have ever been to New York or Boston or Chicago or etc tc. Obviously there's plenty of horrible planning and sprawl in the States, more than most countries, but you can't just throw out the good with the bad.
