GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

According to VIA's website, it's to reduce schedule conflicts with the CP yard. I must've gone by Smiths Falls dozens of times, and it's always been very slow through there... should be a big improvement.

Toronto Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport | ?m | ?s | Ports Toronto | Arup

This will be such an improvement for passengers... I was flying out of YTZ on Friday evening before Thanksgiving and the ferry lineup was crazy. I got to the mainland side just when the ferry was pulling in, and it must've taken at least 20 minutes just to unload and load before we undocked...

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

Is anyone else underwhelmed by the figures in that report? 64,000 cards issued seems pretty small considering all the promotion they seem to have done over the last year. GO Transit alone has 200,000 + daily ridership, Mississauga 100,000+, plus all the other small systems. And I'm sure some...

Toronto Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport | ?m | ?s | Ports Toronto | Arup

There's a 50% off sale (!!!) til Sept. 7. https://www.flyporter.com/Flight/Tickets?culture=en-CA Could just be me but their site is crawling right now... word must be getting out.

    TTC: Sheppard Subway Expansion (Speculative)

What are you basing this on? The facts are that he said earlier this year that the Sheppard subway could be built with no public money up front, and ALREADY he's going around begging to every level of government. As some of us have understood from the beginning, he clearly has no idea what...

Toronto Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport | ?m | ?s | Ports Toronto | Arup

Sorry for the rudeness but when you deride David Miller while saying Rob Ford "gets things done", on a very civic-minded forum, you can't really expect a serious response. Feel free to elaborate on your statements and prove me wrong though. (Not saying I agree with Miller's 2003 airport...

Toronto Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport | ?m | ?s | Ports Toronto | Arup

In the real world, unlike in Bizarro world where you live, Ford doesn't make anything happen and raises a stink about anything that doesn't involve cars. He voted against community programs that EVERY other person on council voted for, including his brother. He's essentially cancelled any...

    Proposed renaming of Dundas Street

That's a nice idea, but the new advertising contract starting next year guarantees $27M per year for the whole system. If they could get $1M per year for a busy station like Dundas that would be a big victory I think.

    Toronto One Bloor East | 257.24m | 76s | Great Gulf | Hariri Pontarini

Full press release here: http://www.newswire.ca/en/releases/archive/July2011/07/c3896.html So it's a "virtual" groundbreaking... I wonder if construction will be virtual as well or if they'll actually start digging at some point.

    TTC: Next Bus/Streetcar Arrival System

From next week's commission meeting - http://www3.ttc.ca/About_the_TTC/Commission_reports_and_information/Commission_meetings/2011/July_6_2011/Reports/Next_Vehicle_Arrival.pdf The TTC's going to start charging $0.15 per text, with the first 2 per day free. Kinda sucks cause this kind of...

    Toronto Union Station Revitalization | ?m | ?s | City of Toronto | NORR

GO's looking at adding another track and platform south of those 2, because there's still not enough capacity. So they will definitely remain.

    Roads: Bathurst Street Bridge

I somehow can't see the TTC building a new streetcar line anytime in the foreseeable future... even the East Bayfront/Portlands is looking less and less likely.

Roads: Keep the Gardiner, fix it, or get rid of it? (2005-2014)

That sounds like Rob Ford Logic TM. The transportation system in the GTA is obviously grossly inadequate, if you hadn't noticed, due to chronic underfunding and underexpansion over the last 20 to 30 years or so - the existing spending is plainly NOT sufficient. So instead of taxing everyone to...

    1233 Queen East | ?m | 8s

Did they ever actually sign a contract with the Nigerians? Seems like they were discussing it and nothing ever came of it.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

The 2011-2012 Metrolinx business plan has a section on upcoming service extensions: http://www.metrolinx.com/en/docs/pdf/board_agenda/20110623/Business_Plan.pdf Somehow not surprising there's still no mention of all day off-peak service on Lakeshore.

TTC: Dufferin Station Modernization (TTC, U/C)

This has got to be the slowest project I've seen yet, they started the east side overhang work in February with a completion date of March...

Toronto Spadina Subway Extension Emergency Exits | ?m | 1s | TTC | IBI Group

LOL, because no politician had heard of a photo op before McGuinty. Please find me an example of ANY big infrastructure project anywhere that hasn't had politicians taking credit for it at every turn. IMO if you manage to get a subway extension funded, even if it's to Vaughan, you've earned...

    Richmond Hill Yonge Line 1 North Subway Extension | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

I wouldn't even call that cooperation, IIRC GO pays the local agencies for those discounts (MT has them too) because without them their parking lots would be more overflowing than they are now.

    Richmond Hill Yonge Line 1 North Subway Extension | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

I really can't see how a subway under Weston Rd could be justified.

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

Ugggh... given my experience with Presto so far I'm not a fan of this. The system as it is has been designed from the ground up for GO customers and the average TTC customer is very different... people shouldn't have to trek to Union to reset a negative balance, for one instance. This also...
