    2023 Toronto Mayoral by-election

My partner is cautious about the possibility of Olivia Chow poking the petulant Ford bear. As for myself, I hope that Chow does exactly that — not to stick it to Ford but rather to send a strong political message in Queens Park’s direction. How Doug would/will react is a good question...

    2023 Toronto Mayoral by-election

And that is politics! That won’t change, ever. That aside, with the strong mayor system I expect the political game in Toronto to change after this by election, to a small or large extent. I’ll watch with interest. Any candidate can claim that they’d not use strong powers, but any of them...

    2023 Toronto Mayoral by-election

Did advance vote today, partner and I both voted for Olivia Chow. And only by the way, for reasons too numerous to write at this point, I feel strongly that this metropolis could stand a woman’s touch. However, if ranked ballots were instituted, we’d both have ranked Matlow second. Very...

    2023 Toronto Mayoral by-election

Your posts have been highly entertaining over dinner at my place. We need the comic relief these days. Wondering this: did you misspell your name?

    2023 Toronto Mayoral by-election

Agreed. I found that he was a brilliant person who unfortunately lost his nerve. I’d heard rumours that he’d had a belly full of the right wingers. Also, it was suggested by some that he new a right wing wave was coming. I considered this tragic. He did make errors, I’ll give you that. On...

    2023 Toronto Mayoral by-election

At this point it is absolutely Chow’s race to lose. I’m very certain that she’s being coached to stay on message and avoid landmines. Chow’s election pitch — the overarching message of inclusiveness, combined with the careful grandmotherly approach — are working, in the wake of two aberrations...

He is coming across as angry, isn’t he? So far, nothing constructive.

    2023 Toronto Mayoral by-election

^ transit city was brilliant. Too bad that the following administration was stupid enough to scrap it.

    2023 Toronto Mayoral by-election

Well I’m liking the passion I’m reading in this thread. The more I read you all, the more I think that some laggards who’ve been around too long at city hall need their butts kicked out of office. “Patches instead of solutions” doesn’t work for long.

    2023 Toronto Mayoral by-election

You live near me (referring to Allan Gardens). I’m not ok with “boots” but I struggle with how else to clear the mess. I won’t go near the place. I resent the loss.

    2023 Toronto Mayoral by-election

Just a thought for all you peeps to ponder. Do any of you think it’s time for a whole new generation at city hall? Everyone seems so stuck on old ideas that no longer work. I’m pretty disillusioned with the legacy hangers-on in power, and entrenched bureaucracies - silos, as someone wisely...

    2023 Toronto Mayoral by-election

^ all very valid complaints, and they’ve been valid for years. The fact that recent administrations have not addressed these issues is very telling. Who’s been looking out for the public? Certainly not the two recent mayors. I can’t see any reason to elect a Tory loyalist.

    2023 Toronto Mayoral by-election

Brad is a Tory loyalist, all the while it’s a challenge for me to think what Tory might have done to ease our gridlock. Even the King transit way has been abandoned. Brad is farcical.

    2023 Toronto Mayoral by-election

It really is becoming a Chow - Saunders matchup. I see Matlow and Bailão backing out and endorsing Chow (can’t conceivably see either endorsing Saunders. I could be quite incorrect there, though). Saunders will get suburban support for sure. Most impressed with the variety of candidates...

    Mayor John Tory's Toronto

Legacy? In my mind, Tory is the guy who was granted super powers, then asked for more super powers (in secret), got them, won a third term, and when new challenges arose (like subway crime), quit. Oh I won’t remember the affair. People have those.

    Mayor John Tory's Toronto

To those who ponder Tory’s legacy: how about naming the eastern elevated Gardiner after him. Some future generation will tear it down.

    2023 Toronto Mayoral by-election

Really pleased that Peñalosa is withdrawing and endorsing Chow. Whoever wins the mayor’s chair should appoint Peñalosa transit czar. He could unrivet Toronto from some ancient ideas that don’t serve us well.

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

Just let’s get rid of the damned things if there’s no will to do it right. 👀.

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

This is a rant. Twice in the week, so far, my streetcar trips have been interrupted by major traffic snafus. If streetcars don’t have unrestricted right of way, then why have streetcars? They can’t wiggle free of the mishap as buses can. I’ve used these TTC vehicles all of my adult life and it...
