    Toronto Portland Commons | 71.7m | 15s | Carttera | Sweeny &Co

Yes, the building was entirely spec build. As a far as I am aware, they have no tenants signed yet.

This is construction, there is very little mercy. Companies that continue to go over budget end up going out of business. But it's still a bit of a cowboy business, so when the work is plentiful, there is always another dreamer ready to risk their capital.

Developers are required to take surety bonds to satisfy Tarion requirements to protect deposits, not the project construction. There is nothing to say that after he fired the original CM, Mizrahi could not have setup a contracting company to complete the work, and get it bonded. It sounds like...

KnightsBridge was hired as the new owner's representative, not the construction manager. They are different roles.

True, similar but that one was a bit different. It was basically a giant suspended scaffold system that was hung from the roof and was lowered down on hoists. Similar for sure.

It is uncommon, but not unheard of. Trump Tower, Shangri-La Hotel, Four Seasons Hotel, Absolute World (Mississauga), Pinnacle One Yonge, all had/have rail climbing systems. There are probably more I am not thinking of. Link to Urban Toronto Explainer...

The RCS I imagine is basically there to provide working area for the installation of the panel system at the columns. The columns on this project are much bigger than on 270 Park. The curtain-wall could easily be installed without it.

    Premier Doug Ford's Ontario

I believe what ended up happening is that because (as Finance Minister), Eves had setup the new defined benefit pension and caused the situation where the re-elected MPPs owed so much tax, later on the Eves government reimbursed the MPPs for the extra tax they paid to Revenue Canada.

MPPs used to have a pension, but it was axed via legislation during the Mike Harris government. There was a bit of a scandal about it during the Eves government, because some MPs received huge payouts and then Revenue Canada took issue with what they did. There were clawbacks I believe. It...

Ontario MPPs do not have pensions. Granddaddy Harris got rid of them. All of them only have defined contribution plans, which I believe are 2-3% max.

It is always possible that Monte bowed out to remain untainted for a future leadership race.

    Exhibition Place

The reason is that LiveNation has lease for the Budweiser Stage facility/land, not the municipal land at Exhibition Place. Their lease extends until 2025. It seems like a no brainer that LiveNation would want to extend the lease, as the facility is surely profitable for them, hence why they were...

    PM Justin Trudeau's Canada

The 2023 Federal budget is $497 billion. In Ontario it is $205 billion. Quebec is $148 billion. BC is $81 billion. Alberta is $68 billion. There is another $35-$50 billion from the remaining provinces. $8 billion across Canada is a drop in the bucket, less than a percent.

    Glass requirements in Toronto highrises

The inner glass lite in your high rise windows needs to be tempered if it is acting as a guard (i.e preventing you from falling to your death). The outer lite does not, and it is typically heat strengthened, not fully tempered, to satisfy other structural requirements (i.e. wind load). If it is...

    Toronto Sixty Colborne Condos | 82.29m | 25s | Freed | a—A

This one took 6 months because it was entirely site built. To do a large tower with a panel system like this in a cost effective way you need to build it offsite as a unitized system. Check out 2 Harbor Life in Boston for an example...

    2022/24 Russian-Ukrainian War

Her grandfather aligning with the Nazi's doesn't make her a Nazi. If that is our standard that we use to tar and feather, then perhaps Canada should sever all ties with German-Canadians and Italian-Canadians, as it is likely they also have ancestors that were collaborators.

    Exhibition Place

Don't forget that LiveNation is (presumably) upgrading the Amphitheatre to a year round venue, with 20k outdoor capacity and 9k indoor. Any venue of comparable size at the Exhibition Place would be competing with that.

The seemingly terminal decline of Tim Hortons

Yeah, the drive through is almost always faster. They don't staff the counter properly at most locations, so service is slow. Tim Hortons corporate measures drive through performance. It is a very important metric, and they come down on franchisees that don't perform well. They have no respect...

    2022/24 Russian-Ukrainian War

To be fair, he did apologize. Did Mr Pollievere? I seem to recall the standing ovation included the Conservative party.

    Premier Doug Ford's Ontario

Of course. The development industry does not operate like a normal business - it is full of corruption. Secret deals, labour exploitation, collaboration to fix prices and wages, subcontractor exploitation, etc. All of this is common, every day business as usual. We should not be surprised at...
