If you're talking about the silver tubes with the black and yellow tabs coming out of them, those would be conduits for post tensioning of the concrete. The black tabs with the yellow tips are probably where they will pump the grout into the conduits afterwards.

What's supposed to happen to Villiers street where the Don is going to pass through? Is the street just going to be split into 2 dead-end segments? Or is there eventually going to be a bridge there?

It's how they keep skateboarders like me away.

I think I sort of agree with you. But I wouldn't say you're simply paying for the ambiance at those polished, higher end restaurants. I think anyone who's been to restaurants like that understands how much better and more exquisite the food can be. While I don't at all disagree that you can find...

What's this about downtown Toronto not having good restaurants??? One of the weirdest takes I've heard on this site. Downtown Toronto probably has some of the most consistently highly rated restaurants in the country. Saying you need to go to Brampton or Scarborough to get tasty food is one of...

The "fast and easy" part would affect the rich. I agree that making it more expensive isn't a good solution, but initiatives like more bike lanes and more dedicated streetcar lanes would certainly do the trick.

    Toronto Therme Spa/West Island at Ontario Place | 45.15m | 9s | Therme Group | Diamond Schmitt

That all makes sense. Thanks. I actually didn't take in the sheer scale of the facility. I assumed it would've been more along the lines of the other smaller spas you mentioned. But considering they would need to appeal to families that would repeatedly visit I think you're definitely correct...

    Toronto Therme Spa/West Island at Ontario Place | 45.15m | 9s | Therme Group | Diamond Schmitt

Just out of curiosity, why do you think the spa would be a failure? I don't know much about what makes a spa successful, but it seems like most facilities like this aren't close to the city (I might be wrong about this since this is just based on the spas I know). Given the density of Toronto...

    Toronto 160 Front West | 239.87m | 46s | Cadillac Fairview | AS + GG

Steel usually gets sprayed with a cementitious material for fireproofing. But this stuff looks awful, so wherever members are to be architecturally exposed they will often opt for an intumescent paint/coating instead to fireproof the members. I'm guessing that's the difference you're seeing...

This is like one of those "guess how many jelly beans are in the jar" contests! I think we'll be at more than 1500. I guess around 2000. And if it looks like we won't make it, I'm spamming the thread to make sure I win!

Oh wow. That sounds really dangerous.

It might've already been discussed here, but what the heck happened to the X - bracing on the tower cladding? Why are parts of it missing? It looks horribly bad.

Sure. If your point is that we all pay a price to some extent then I would agree. But I was replying to someone who specifically said that all transit routes are affected by traffic, which isn't true.

70Challenger mentioned trains, which wouldn't be affected by traffic. But your point is well taken. Buses and streetcars (where they don't have dedicated lanes) are certainly affected the same way as cars.

Agreed! The original render was definitely a showstopper.

Fair enough. It's definitely not "stand-out" like the Gehry towers or something, but I'd still say the lines and curves on it make it somewhat special, at least by Toronto standards. Certainly not your standard glass box at least.

You don't think the current design will still make it one of the more unique buildings on the Toronto skyline?
