    Toronto Royal Ontario Museum | ?m | ?s | Daniel Libeskind

Today I saw approximately 9 police cruisers, 5 fire trucks, a couple of ambulances and a bomb defusion vehicle at Bloor and Avenue, as well as cops directing traffic away from the ROM. Anybody caught wind of what was going on?

I think that slightly overhangs the sidewalk, but surely not Murray Street.

    Avenue Road Oldies

Gorgeous. Avenue Road is among the more architecturally inviting routes up to the 401 from downtown (I drive by often on my way to Guelph). Anyone know the history behind this unusually large concentration of pre-war apartment complexes on Avenue? Also, don't you mean "north" of Dupont?

    Guelph

That's the Petrie Building at 15 Wyndham St. N - according to its designated heritage properties sign, this building is a rare treat in Canada as it boasts one of the only stamped galvanized iron facades. I'd love to see this one restored to its former beauty.

Update: November 19, 2007 Notice Verve climbing in the background. Just across the street, looks like a bust in progress.

Bah, developments and their similar names! Thanks for clearing that up.

Toronto buildings everyone loves to hate, but you think are OK

As the subject title suggests, this thread is devoted to the black sheep of the local urban landscape that you think have, undeservedly, earned a so-called "bad rap". I will begin by nominating 2 Bloor West. Sure, it's seen better days and perhaps some think the colour palette could be more...

    Whole Foods

I made the mistake once of naively waltzing into Whole Foods and asking for foie gras. The grocer sort of looked at me in a horrified way and mumbled something about not having any. Lately, I've boycotted Dominion (specifically, the one at College Park) completely after repeatedly coming...

1 Bloor East, DEAD AND BURIED (Bazis, -2s, Varacalli)

That building has always been a mystery to me. It first struck me when I noticed an elegant limestone(?) doorframe juxtaposed amongst the otherwise featureless exterior. Could've been a looker. Anyway, as I was passing by on the way back from work today, I stumbled across an exclusive-looking...

RBC Centre (LEED Gold, CadFair, 41s, KPF/B+H/&Co.) COMPLETE

I'm sorry, I can't picture this Front St. RBC building at all, and Google image search isn't yielding anything useful. Does anyone have a picture?

That's very Jacobian of you. :)

This may be a stupid question (or has already been discussed), but how are they going to manage the undulating balconies seen in the renderings? It seems that the concrete platforms constituting the balconies so far are straight as an arrow. Does it have to do with the railings?

Doors Open Niagara: Buffalo Central Terminal

It was my understanding that the location chosen for the building the terminal was poor from the very start, being far from the city center, and most likely contributed to its decline and demise.

1 Bloor East, DEAD AND BURIED (Bazis, -2s, Varacalli)

The "1" in the logo sort of looks like the sillhouette of the Ritz.

    Liberty Village Update (Sept 30)

Sadly, the photos actually kind of flatter it.

Scramble Crossings (City of Toronto) (Yonge/Dundas, Yonge/Bloor, Bay/Bloor)

They have a scramble crossing in downtown Guelph (at St. George Square). I admit it's probably on a different scale since both automobile and pedestrian traffic in Guelph is quite modest, but the signals operate such that pedestrians cross after every cycle. In other words, you have: E/W cars...

    Toronto X The Condominium | ?m | 44s | Great Gulf | a—A

Actually, my bad. The trees in question were on the Couture condo site next door. I suppose we should blame them instead (I live in Phase I, and all my experiences with the developer so far have stunk, so I'm more than willing to use them as a scapegoat for all the problems in the universe).

They just took down and shredded up a couple of mature trees on the perimeter of the site. A bit of a shame - hopefully they'll plant some replacements.

    Buildings you'd like to obliterate...

What's with the hate-on for Sid Smith? While I agree that it's a nightmare to navigate, I hardly find the exterior to be so offensive. (not the most current picture)
