U of T's Urban Studies program VS. Ryerson's Urban Planning program?

Yea, I just went on their website today and saw.

Toronto and London Stock Exchanges to merge?

Its a complex issue to look at. I think in order for Canada to make a real impact on the global market... we will have to join up with another exchange in order to really make an impact. The fact the it is with a nation so close to Europe makes it even better. Both boards of the company...

U of T's Urban Studies program VS. Ryerson's Urban Planning program?

Thank you for bringing this up. I'm in Waterloo's School of Planning and I agree that it is good. Issue is that it's in Waterloo, which doesn't happen to really represent any of the knowledge we gain from the program. As for Ryerson, I think they just lost their accreditation. York still has...

    Greater Toronto's Sprawl

It is a good article but I do not think it will cause more sprawl. All of these cities, regardless of effort, must intensify or they can not grow their tax base. Mississauga is a prime example of this. It was the 'first' major sprawling suburb of the GTA that has filled it's boundary... it has...

Although I don't mind grey when it is glass but I do agree that there should be more colour. Won't the TCHC buildings here change that for this neighbourhood?

Toronto CampusOne Student Residence (was University Place) | 79.85m | 25s | Knightstone | Diamond Schmitt

To be honest I do not understand why some are against this building. All I ever see is "ugh another box" or "gross its a glass blue box"... finally something that is at least interesting and all we see is "oh its out of context" and "it doesn't fit in the neighbourhood." This building would...

U of T is a MAD SERIOUS university, you have to agree with that.

    Greater Toronto's Sprawl

So explain to me the City of Waterloo. By no means is it a 'city' or 'urban' as you have explained it and the place is notoriously known for "small town" mentality. Waterloo has also benefited from Kitchener commitment to social services given that the majority of services are in Kitchener.

    Greater Toronto's Sprawl

Still doesn't change the purpose of my comment. The town looks towards the future, unlike some other suburban cities/towns/villages.

    Greater Toronto's Sprawl

I think the city to look out for is Markham. Some people may not support the kind of planning that happens there... but there is definitely a strong vision.

Waterfront: Portlands Sports Complex (8s?, RDH Architects) DEAD

Expensive yes... but I think only in Canada the idea of a four-story 'icescaper' is possible.

    Deamalgamation for Toronto and Hamilton?

I think it would be hard for the suburbs to 'leave' Toronto. They are suburban.. but Toronto has other suburbs that they will have to compete with. Toronto and the GTA need a Regional Government in my opinion. I know most people do want another level of government.. but I think due to the size...

The Rob Ford Mayoralty: Architecture/Design/Heritage/Planning discussion thread

^ I personally think that the money for that will be redirected to suburban arenas. Or just completely canceled. Ford will do a lot more for the suburbs, so do not expect 'many' big public developments in the downtown area.
