Toronto article in Fall 2009 Intelligent Life Magazine

Hah. Even now, all it would take is one visit back to the ethnic homeland to really drive home just how Canadian you are. My parents are immigrants and their circle of friends is largely confined to people from their homeland, but they identify as Canadian all the same. After 40 or so years in...

    How much greener are condos?

I don't think you can answer this question in a general sense. You'd have to compare one particular condo unit to one particular house to get a useful answer.

if were goin 2 b pedantic, i can haz moar punctuation ? :D Fine. Gosh, you people are so strict... anyways, what's with "lol"? That's not proper English, it's text/msn language. ;) But honestly, TTCboy13 -- it's a lot easier to take you seriously if you form proper sentences.

    City-TV & OMNI-TV's H.Q. (formerly Torch, Quadrangle)

Or they could use LEDs like on the CN Tower for flashy/swirly effects.

    Rinks & Scrimmage Hockey

Some rinks are scheduled to open Nov 21 , the rest on Dec 5. You just have to hope the weather cooperates. :) Some shinny schedules, plus anything else you ever wanted to know about rinks in Toronto.

News on retail chains (was: New Mall Retail)

Could it be a Longo's? The nearest one is at Rathburn & Ponytrail, I think. Is that Costco-esque grocery in the plaza at Confederation & Central Pkwy still around?

    Which ones will be permanent?

    Do you wear a poppy?

There are no tales of sacrifice or battle heroics in my family, but there are ones about how the family lands and business (sugar plantation, incidentally) were commandeered to feed the Dutch war effort; how they abandoned their homes and hid in the mountains when the troops marched in; how all...

    Toronto Parks

Maybe a flowerbed could work here. Queen's Park could use more flowers anyway.

News on retail chains (was: New Mall Retail)

There was a Dominion in Square One waaaaayy back in the day.

    Forum Changes Coming (Opinions Requested)

Maybe threads could be tagged with '905', 'Etobicoke' and so forth. That way you don't have to file them in separate sections but you still have a way to filter them out. This way you could have all kinds of ways of sorting the threads -- by architect, by height, etc.

Ontario's deficit grows: MoveOntario in trouble?

I think McDonalds would have done this already if it was possible.

Watertable (Public Art) Gardiner Expressway @ Fort York

That sounds pretty chaotic! I don't know if that would work so well... Plus, if you are only asking people who do this sort of thing just for kicks, that's one thing. But I think if we're going to commission a work of art, we ought to pay the artist. They have to make a living too.

Yes, a wiki would be cool. Or at least, sticky posts for project FAQs.

    Why the Hate for Mississauga?

Ok, fair enough. I think we're still talking past each other, but this is starting to feel like Groundhog Day, so I'll shut up now. :D

    Why the Hate for Mississauga?

Then we agree to differ here. Yes, life is complicated, but you'll have to pry my smileys out of my cold, dead hands. I agree! It is the most obvious target. I am just wondering if there are any other factors at play here. Is that not a possibility? Just as some may have an instinctive...

    Why the Hate for Mississauga?

I don't dispute that 'Mississauga' has become shorthand for suburban dystopia. Why that came to be is perfectly understandable. But 'home' was my immediate gut reaction to your specific question -- and gut reactions are the ones you have as a human being, not as an urbanist or what have you. If...

    Why the Hate for Mississauga?

And consequently what? You don't need our input? Or just not the input of the benighted and the feeble-minded? Cause that's really not the same as "Mississaugan". :)

    Why the Hate for Mississauga?

What? You were only asking what synapses are triggered when you hear the name "Mississauga". Home doesn't necessarily mean "promised land beyond reproach". If you've grown up and lived there all your life it'd be home first and foremost, and suburban hell (or whatever) a very distant second. Of...
