Yes I've been a tad underwhelmed with the Ritz. I know they were going for understated, but it's a bit too understated. Some logos on the tower, and less grey might help. Trump on the other hand looks better every day. Once the base is tidied up and cleaned, it's gonna be a real winner.

    Another Grass-is-Greener Everywhere Else tête-à-tête-à-tête-à-tête

Having lived in London, England and spent a great deal of time in Paris, France, I can assure you that a large percentage of both cities look like crap. The picture postcard scenes are not representative of the whole cities, just small sections of (mainly) central districts. The same applies to...

Personally I'm loving the variety of styles in the MCC. If downtown Toronto really wants to shake off its "Boxonto" image, it needs to embrace such variety, and not keep playing it safe.

I assumed "pos" was an acronym for "piece of shit"? Or was it meant to be "phenomenal outstanding structure"? :) ... I was going back a few pages...

Folks on this site are such drama queens! The use of phrases like "piece of shit" to describe perfectly good buildings etc. I'm not a fan of 18 Yorkville, but it's not a piece of shit. Neither is the Regency. A "piece of shit" would be a crumbling disfunctional building in a Detroit ghetto...

Speaking as someone who looks out directly into another large building directly across a street, you'd be surprised how many people really don't mind. It's a reality of urban living that is accepted by many. It adds a kind of cosy vibrancy in a way. It's not for everyone though, I agree.

Edward's post reminded me. Does anyone have a picture of what used to stand at this location, before the sales centre, and parking lot?

On the general subject to the negativity shown towards the project. Yes there are aspects that are not ideal. The lower east wall, the service entrance on Bay etc... but let's look at what we DO have... A very high end 5-star hotel at a prominent intersection of our city. I'd say that's a...

Irishmonk dude, thank you! I had no idea it was actually possible to block out users. I've added the usual suspects! It ain't perfect but it's better for sure. Back onto Four Seasons (kind of). Can anyone tell me, is it possible to tell the difference between glass curtain wall and window wall...

Agreed. Two over-the-top towers next to each other would've been too much, and two glass boxes next to each other would be too sterile. I think they make a nice couple and really add character to the area.

UD, I'm wondering. Were you ever bullied at school? Seriously, I'd love to know what turns a person into a character like you. You single handedly make this forum a depressing place to visit with your constant judgemental and pretentious attitude. If I could block your posts, I surely would.

Oh god it's awful. This would be bad anywhere, but in Yorkville it's a crime. The minimal spacing just adds to the mess.

So true. Same bunch who think it's right to automatically hate precast panels. Absurd.

Why can't a lazy-aping of Art Deco still be a valuable style in itself? It doesn't have to accurately copy art-deco, or any other style. It doesn't have to be of the highest quality materials. It doesn't have to conform with any of your or my pre-conceptions. I can just be a building, that many...

Opinions, discussions - Yes. Character assassinations, slagging matches, trying to "out-thesaurus" each other for the sake of it - No.

Jeeez, every thread on this forum is the same... A: I like this. B: I don't like this. Why would anyone like this? C: My tastes are better than yours. D: No MY tastes are better than yours. A: B is narrow minded. D: A is a box lover. A: D is a snob. blah blah. Granted, I may have contributed...

Some of these proposal renderings have little relevance to the final product. Backstage for example just showed a vague box. The final design was way superior.

Walked past this today and was disappointed with the big changes made to the SE corner of the podium. The previously interesting angled columns are covered over with an odd looking layer of transparent glass and what almost looks like a walkway has been bolted on behind it. I'm not sure what I'm...

Maybe this could be an opportunity for precast cladding to redeem itself after the unfortunate application The Uptown. I'm also hoping no green glass and I'm really hoping for highly reflective glass. Some recent buildings look kinda lousy in direct sunlight due to their mass of...
