    Toronto Aura at College Park | 271.87m | 78s | Canderel | Graziani + Corazza

To reiterate what others said following this post, I do expect discussion and debate, but quips like "it's the Graziani & Corazza Effect at work" and other comments making generic statements about firms, particular styles, and locations just reinforce the narrow, fanboyesque inflexible type of...

Jeez, folks on this site act like fanboys debating smartphones.

Good point. I'll prepare my comb-over, just incase! ;)

haha. I will wear my hair in a comb-over for a month if I'm wrong about this! :)

I'm gonna stick my neck out and say the crow's nest is absolutely not a permanent feature. The reason being that it would interrupt the signature strip of LED lights on the NW corner at night... unless it were covered in LED lights too... or unless it were kept at the tip... Okay, I'm starting...

    Toronto 87 Peter | 156.05m | 49s | Menkes | Core Architects

It's unfortunate that I'm even referring to a 49 storey building as "infill", but that's pretty much all this appears to be. It looks extremely unwelcoming at ground level, and the tower is very generic. If the guy from Menkes thinks this is sexy, I'd hate to see his taste in women.

I'm not saying this isn't a relevant discussion, but could this be moved to a Toronto dining or hotel customer service thread, rather than the construction thread?

Toronto Peter Gilgan Centre for Research and Learning | ?m | 21s | Sick Kids | Diamond Schmitt

Only saw this in person for the first time today, and this is one impressive structure. It's totally changed the feel of that area of Bay Street, for the better in my opinion. It's also interesting to see a structure with such a wide base, after seeing so many slender point towers going up. The...

Fin-tastic! (Sorry, I couldn't resist). This may be slightly off topic, but when the streets are repaired or replaced around new construction, the concrete is a much lighter shade of colour. Is this normal? Does it fade darker when it cures? I'm no expert on concrete chemistry, but some...

My post certainly wasn't aimed at you Miscreant. It just happened to follow on the thread after your post. I find you to be one of the more balanced commentators on this forum.

I have a suggestion for a new forum FAQ… Problem: Another Urban Toronto forum member is deluded that they are the absolute authority on matters of subjective aesthetics. Solution 1: Look at photos only. Scroll past text quickly to avoid becoming embroiled in trivial circular arguments...

I can't quite place it, but I'm sure I've seen this building somewhere before. Something familiar... What could it be? Maybe the boxy shape? Maybe the balconies? Maybe the soul-less sterile form? Ah, wait! I remember now. I saw this in downtown Toronto... like a HUNDRED TIMES! ;)

^ In your opinion. There are many who don't agree with you.

If there is one building that justifies being called "iconic" in this boom, it's this. It stands out above the sea of grey aA monotony, people know it, recognize it, and the "normal" people I have spoken to (ie not skyscraper freaks like us on forums) love it.

I saw a proposal sign up today. Looks like it had a triangular sloping roof too. Will try and get a pic.

I was just about to write the exact same. I had no idea how this would actually work, but it does. The roof elements could have done being a tad more exaggerated, but that's a minor quibble. Humber Bay is really looking good.

Wow Crystal Blue looks rough in that first shot, but Uptown is kinda growing on me. Quite a nice cluster appearing around the north end of downtown! Lots of variety.

Sorry yes, I meant its external appearance, not function.

I'm not a flat out P&S hater, but maaaaan, they can do better than this. The entertainment district needs a landmark focal point that makes a statement. This represents entertainment about as much as the TIFF building... which ain't much.
