    Toronto Aura at College Park | 271.87m | 78s | Canderel | Graziani + Corazza

I agree - but for this to happen we need a) proper bike infrastructure, parking facilities and education to reduce bike-related damage to trees; and b) better design, maintenance and investment in the public realm. It's not rocket science - but somehow Toronto just doesn't get it. Having just...

No trees is probably a good thing. Have you seen the state of the ones up by college park? They're used as bike racks and already severely damaged. They'll likely be dead by winter. Why can't Toronto design things properly - this is such a half-assed town.

General cycling issues (Is Toronto bike friendly?)

I agree, Toronto needs to build more facilities for bikes - especially appropriate bike parking downtown. Bikes are locked (and piled) up on every sign, wire and tree. Not only does it look junky, but bikes are doing costly damage to property - especially trees. Just look at the new street...

77 King Street (TD Centre) Revitalization

Visited the plaza level on the weekend and noticed they have planted some Ginkgo trees among the honey locust. Not impressed. I dont mind Gingko trees, but they shouldnt be in this plaza - The architectural shape, dark bark, bright leaves and dappled sunlight effect produced by honey locust...

Line-ups to get in again this afternoon. My recently diminished appreciation for college park Sobeys is restored.

    Downtown Yonge

Noticed the that most of Canon Theatre's "Canon Theatre" signage is gone and the marquee isn't lit up. Anybody know what's up?

Will do - thanks DSC. Too bad substantial bike parking wasn't designed into the project. I am not sure a few posts and rings will be enough....

Love it. But not a single bike stand? Just-planted trees on Carlton are already securing three bikes each. They'll be dead by spring. C'mon people!

haha. yes, i DO need my beauty sleep... Oh, and regarding the Marquee - it's fine i guess. I can live with the white back-lit plastic, but i really wish they'd tidied up the MLG font. It may be true to the original, but it's really ugly. The glass panels extending down from the edge, do...

i dont know how much the gift cards will be worth - Breakfast Television is going to be there, and usually when they're on hand to open a store (or whatever) the gift cards are between 25 and 50, with a few larger ones mixed in for excitement. I am just guessing. Maybe someone else has more info?

anyone going early tomorrow morning for the big opening "hoopla"? I am tempted to stop by for a gift card on my way to work -I'd be willing to go (and wait) a bit early, but not if it means getting there at 5am....any predictions on how crazy it will be?

I think I would have preferred if the marquee was digital - much like the sign at Bay Adelaide Centre. It could show a graphic of the historic sign as installed but could be made dynamic through animated graphics for specific events, etc. Although it may be true to original, I find the...

Yonge Street Revitalization (Downtown Yonge BIA/City of Toronto)

I dont think I would call it corporate welfare - improvements to the public realm arent only about increasing profits - it ups the quality and livability of the environment that we all share. Plus improvements make the city more attractive for visitors who spread their money around the whole...

Yonge Street Revitalization (Downtown Yonge BIA/City of Toronto)

If Evergreen owns the building - they have the right to use it. And, if an organization like Evergreen can't exist on Yonge Street - where should it be able to operate? the NIMBYS would never want it their residential neighborhoods' backyards. Social progams are important, even if you find them...

    New tree grates/infrastructure

I understand your argument, but single species plantings take advantage of architectural qualities of trees and can be an important part of place making. I know there are risks but imagine Central park without the singular use of elms or the Champs-Elysées without the qualities of london...

Yonge Street Revitalization (Downtown Yonge BIA/City of Toronto)

Just went back to look at Granville - and the scale of those lights would fit pretty well on Yonge. Granville's lights are more sculptural and fit in well with the signage; they add to the visual excitement to the street (and i think they change colour too for special holidays/events). I guess...
