Saks Fifth Avenue Flagship (Queen & Yonge)

looks like they'll also bring the doors out to the street at the corner of queen and yonge. I like the way the doors are currently set back behind the corner display window as the sidewalk isnt that wide and it makes a more comfortable transition from outside to inside. oh well....

    Toronto 399 Yonge | 252.3m | 75s | Capital Developments | Teeple Architects

looks great but i'm surprised this restoration didnt happen as part of a larger redevelopment of the NW corner of Yonge and Gerrard. That building on corner should really go....

that last rendering is beautiful - lots of variety at street level, street furniture and trees. Yonge street would really benefit from more trees when the sidewalks are made wider. In the meantime, i wish they'd add some planters or even hanging baskets to green it up a bit.

Strange clumps of little patios have appeared outside Reds. This little section on Yonge, and a larger similar strip on Gerrard. To me, it looks awkward, and not very inviting. Too far from the restaurant, and too small. This stretch of wide sidewalks could have been amazing, but instead we...

The Tenor (10 Dundas St E, Ent Prop Trust, 10s, Baldwin & Franklin)

Looks like the new ceiling in the basement will have a curved ticker sign - visible as you come down the escalator or approach the escalators from from the subway.

It's strange that Red's directs people to a side Gerrard entrance rather than have a proper and prominent entrance at the corner of Yonge and Gerrard where the awkward set of double doors are. I wonder how the architects imagined those double doors working? At right angles to one another? Maybe...

    Toronto-Astral Street Furniture Program

I've always thought that those light masts at Y+D square should be equipped with coloured lights to animate the surface of the square at night. And maybe a few spot/searchlights to add a bit of movement. As you can see in that pic, the billboards are bright but the square itself is actually very...

Wow, I hope i never get "honored" with a park like Barbara Ann Scott did. First the city lets it fall into a shocking level of disrepair, and now they're going to rip out the rink in a low-budget makeover. Apparently, there isn't enough money to rebuild the rink. What? "Toronto plans to scrap...

I'm not a fan of the lighting on Yonge Street - wish it had a bit more flash, or looked less like something ordered from a catalogue. Wishing for something more like Granville Street...

    Toronto Bloor Street Revitalization | ?m | ?s | Bloor-Yorkville BIA | architectsAlliance

Walked from Avenue Road to Yonge tonight. Very few (almost none) of the in-ground up-lights for the trees were on. Even when most were working the pedestrian zone never had enough light. It's way too dark. Someone really overestimated and/or miscalculated the impact of the tree and storefront...

TTC: Dufferin Station Modernization (TTC, U/C)

Also, the "U" is slightly thinner and there's a misalignment issue with second "F" as it crosses the grout - not to mention that that the top stroke of the "F" extends too far onto the next tile. It's a Sloppy mess. Why don't they continue to sandblast the text? It's a simpler process and less...

    Hudson's Bay Company

I was shopping in the men's department a few weeks ago and asked the salesperson about the scaffolding - apparently there is a water leak somewhere above and the scaffolding is up to protect the merchandise. At least that's what he told me.....

yes, insufficient soil is a problem, but i think bark damage from bikes is a huge factor. We need proper/sufficient bike parking, and tree guards to protect the trunks from damage - especially when they are young.

Good luck finding commercial street like this in Toronto. While we may have a great number of trees in our inner-city residential streets - commercial/retail streets have the saddest trees I've ever seen - half dead (or entirely dead), spindly, stunted - depressing.
