    2022/24 Russian-Ukrainian War

In my opinion, the situation for Ukraine is likely significantly worse than what the US and its media apparatus are willing to admit- 100K deaths as the article states would hardly have caused the manpower issues that Zaluzhny and co. are acknowledging now, nor would officials believe that they...

    News from the Middle East

Who knows? Hamas has gone all in on this (do or die) with Hezbollah on the ring ropes, and the US is now sending a carrier group to the East Mediterranean. If it spreads to Lebanon, Iran will definitely get involved. The biggest issue I could see is both fronts competing for arms and aid from...

Interesting (unverified) anecdote about the City of Toronto government, on the RT derailment:

    Toronto U of T: University College Revitalization | ?m | 3s | U of T | Kohn Shnier

The Venice charter should rightfully be resigned to the dustheap of outdated architectural theory at this point in time.

    PM Justin Trudeau's Canada

I don't think the Conservatives are going to offer the fixes people are hoping for. Liberal, Conservative, they're on the same canoe arguing how fast to paddle up a dead-end creek.

President Joe Biden's United States of America

I think despite whatever rosy jobs and GDP statistics are being pumped out, this is a society and establishment in clear crisis.

    PM Justin Trudeau's Canada

Didn't a bunch of OLP government groupies jump over to the federal Liberals? I remember that Butts went from the provincial level (where he crafted Ontario's equivalent of the Energiewende) to being cozy with Trudeau.

    Toronto EQ Bank Tower | 105.18m | 23s | First Gulf | Sweeny &Co

Yes, I'm very much aware of that, just pointing out the differences in the quality of glass as compared to some of its neighbours.

I think the overall quality of the glass is better and it uses curtain wall as opposed to the greenish spandrel-window-wall that overwhelms most condos.

Would you emigrate to Canada today

Yup, and I think that safety in many large and populous countries is extremely variable- in the US, particular states and inner cities can be fairly dangerous, while suburbs are (unfortunately) fairly safe; while in Russia, the republics are sometimes what drive up violence rates.

    Proposed renaming of Dundas Street

The Chow honeymoon will be quickly coming to an end if she cannot resolve this issue competently. She cannot turn her pockets inside out (literally) while complaining to higher levels of government about funding, and then spend $9 million on this (with additional costs incurred by residents and...

    Toronto East Harbour | 214.2m | 65s | Cadillac Fairview | Adamson

I don’t get this perception that Toronto is losing more of its heritage than Montreal nowadays, when nearly of the developments in this city retain facades (of various value) along its old retail strips, while Montreal is more blaise about removing old buildings (I.e. in Chinatown and its Arts...

    PM Justin Trudeau's Canada

It's still not so different, there are often unspoken agreements that even if a marriage is over, the marriage is kept up for appearances and separation only occurs after the politician has left office or their political career is over.

    Toronto Royal Ontario Museum | ?m | ?s | Daniel Libeskind

Things I noticed from a recent trip: - The ground floor is free 'til September. - The new outdoor garden on Bloor is growing in nicely. - The had live music in the Crystal atrium but the acoustics are not great. That being said, it was nice hearing some music wafting up into the galleries. -...
