    Hazelton Hotel/Condo (Yorkrow, 9s, P+S/IBI Group) COMPLETE

I would say that Yorkville is the stomping grounds of the tacky Woodbridge set. Mr. and Mrs. Gino whiling away a Saturday afternoon. Forest Hill-ers tend to hang in Forest Hill village.

    Globe on sidewalk etiquette

How can a driver not see that, directly in front of him or her, the traffic is completely stopped and there is no chance of clearing the intersection before the light changes? If they can't see something so obvious, they shouldn't be driving. You're trying to defend what is essentially a...

    Hazelton Hotel/Condo (Yorkrow, 9s, P+S/IBI Group) COMPLETE

In those pics it almost looks like there is a Subway sandwich shop tucked away inside this building. Perhaps McEwan is outsourcing part of the menu to them?

    Up Country on King St

Today is the last day so perhaps in an air of desperation they have marked them down further? Or maybe they'll just move it all to their warehouse facility. I'm curious to see if their overall furniture style will change with the new owners.

    Sprawl: Pro and Con

Which simply adds to my point, which is that mature trees are critical to blunting the aesthetic challenges of neighbourhoods. If Rosedale, with superior architecture than these Mc-Tract housing suburbs, would be ugly without trees, this proves the urgency of planting bigger trees in the ugly...

    Up Country on King St

I went on Sunday and while there seems to still be a pretty good selection left, the discounts aren't nearly as great as one would be led to believe from their adverts in the Star. It was more like a 25-30% discount (as opposed to the "up to" 80% touted in the Star).

He's just channelling his inner Rush Limbaugh.

    Sprawl: Pro and Con

It would take 10,15 20 years for trees to grow large enough to mitigate the sheer ugliness of these new areas. The one-time only, six hour ride down the 400 with a truck full of more mature trees would definitely be worth the effort. However, it's just my opinion; I happen to love areas with...

    Sprawl: Pro and Con

If the developer wanted to (and the new residents demanded it) they could plant much larger, more mature trees than the puny ones they have in these tract-housing enclaves (as Context did with their Lombard St. Parkette). However, since aesthetic beauty is a priority for neither the developers...

    Homelessness and Panhandling in Toronto

I agree. That's a pretty lame thing to take a photo of, unless they are from a small town where homelessness doesn't exist (or is hidden).

    Globe on sidewalk etiquette

I agree, US. If the driver is too stupid to realize that the traffic is backed up, and that their selfish action simply worsens the vehicular and pedestrian traffic in the intersection, then the pedestrian is right to shoot dirty looks (as the stranded drivers who cannot pass through the...

    Homelessness and Panhandling in Toronto

    I vote for sad...and embarassing.

    Sprawl: Pro and Con

Those developments along the 400, around Hwy 7 and Wonderland, are in my opinion the most hideous areas in the GTA. While the density is higher, the fact that there is not a tree to be found makes the landscape utterly depressing. The cheap construction, lack of architectural flourish, absence...

    Up Country on King St

It's hardly the Brick or Leon's. And most people can't afford the $10,000 couches at Italinteriors. UpCountry was bought by another company - they are liquidating their current inventory. I believe they will be keeping the name.

The Women's Section is That Way...Now Move!

Barely recovered from Nan Kempner's passing, to lose Brooke and Leona so close together is devestating.

I agree, and all those projects certainly represent a critical mass. I think that The Richmond was somewhat of a catalyst for that whole area, and with all of these new projects coming along the pressure to gentrify is going to intensify.

    Toronto The Modern | ?m | 17s | Empire | DTAH

I agree that it's improved a lot over the past several years, but to many people the corner of Queen and Sherbourne is still "scary". There is a shelter or drop-in centre on Queen, just north of Sherbourne that does a brisk business, and the crowd can be pretty intimidating when there is a bunch...
