Thank God for some of the speculations, lately, about the cause of the relative slowdown. They've provided me entertainment in place of the excitement of seeing significant progress.

Based simply on logic, I would be more than shocked if that doesn't happen long, long, long before construction ends.

That's like disputing the weight of an elephant by saying it weighs far less on the moon. There are a considerable number of differences between North America and Europe, and things are as they are because at least for the time being, things are wanted this way, or are the most practical or fit...

Wherever high end stores build. their customers are going to drive. not walk or take public transit, so there will need to be ample parking. And if businesses relocate out of the city, who's going to want to live in or visit the city?

Where are those cars supposed to park if it disappears?

I do, but either my memory is fading or you're older, as I seem to remember them being 4-fer-one. I used to buy them at a corner store directly across the street from Givins-Shaw School (built in 1914), which I attended from Kindergarten to Grade 7. Maybe 10 years ago, or so, the school was...

When I was a kid in the early 60's, my friends and I used to regularly walk about thirty minutes to the stadium to collect discarded pop bottles to refund for candy money. I actually attended one or two games there.

Photo is from approximately 1957. It could be from a little earlier. It's not my photo.

One last off-topic response, if I may: I've seen plenty of change, which is why I hate to miss out on future changes. This was Toronto when I first arrived from Italy..

One of the worst things about growing old is the constant reminders (thoughts?) that one won't be around to see interesting/exciting changes being discussed. Some of us don't have time for baby steps. :(

That's a completely different thing. For one, knowing a "fall" won't kill you takes some of the fear away. Secondly, having a secure tether tied to you should take care of any residual fear.

I knew that. ;) Seriously--I did. BTW, what I really meant was that most Americans are unaware that any other country made a significant contribution to the space shuttle program rather than knowing the nickname of the SRMS.

Ever notice that every Canadian is aware of Canadarm, but no American is?

I'm no physicist, but I believe a shadow cast by the sun near the horizon will cast a shadow about five times the size of the object, so to answer your question--about 45 more storeys.

I snapped this photo in James Gardens about five years ago. I know nothing about it other than where I took the photo, and that it was summer at the time.

My offering is crude, and inaccurate, but it does give you an idea of the view you may see based on the vantage point in your photo. I look forward to seeing your photo when The One is completed. :)
