Yonge Street Revitalization (Downtown Yonge BIA/City of Toronto)

I agree that the tackiness of Yonge Street is due largely because of the way that the buildings have been allowed to be treated and the landlords who own those buildings hardly even care. I mean the Gasworks was one of the last rock n roll night clubs before they shut it down in 1993, for what...

Does anybody know why the place shut down? I hate the way that building was treated.

No! They should keep it the way it is and fix it up. :( This is what I mean when I say they should fix up at least some, if not all, of the buildings on Yonge Street. They need to start investing money in other persuits otherwise it's going to look ugly walking/driving down Yonge Street.

Can I ask who owns the old Gasworks building? I would love to buy that particular building from the renters and fix it up for business. Right now it looks absolutely attrocious.

1331 Yonge Street, where 1050 Chum radio station used to be, is slated for demolition to make way for retail and residential space. Why would they do that to such an antquated building I don't know?

Yonge Street Revitalization (Downtown Yonge BIA/City of Toronto)

Well, I think that The real reason why Yonge is so shabby is because people have let the buildings fall apart. Even that place where The Gasworks used to be is dilapagated but that's just a part of the charm of Yonge Street. And there are people who just don't give a crap one way or the other...

I can agree with that. As long as nothing else is disturbed but the buildings that are slated for demolition then I have no problem with that.

Yes! That's what I was trying to say. If you build them then eventually you're going to run out of space. We need to preserve what's on Yonge Street and make sure that it's still around.

What I mean is that Condos are big business to everyone involved. The developers, the builders, the city, everyone. I can't say that the landscape in Cobourg hasn't been ruined by condo developments, and believe me it has, but still I hate the idea that a single street can be ruined just by...

Yonge Street Revitalization (Downtown Yonge BIA/City of Toronto)

Exactly! Why ruin the old world charm of Yonge Street when so much more can be done to bring it back to life?

    Downtown Yonge

No the way to save most of what deserves to be saved is to stop big business from walking all over the City Council. Which is what's happening here. You can't tell me that the councilor in that ward isn't being walked all over.

And who, may I ask, is the idiot on City Council who approved that monstrosity?

There's a sign in front of the Lo-La resturaunt on the corner of Maitland Street and Yonge street which is one way that says they're going to tear the building down for a 56 storey condominium complex and an above grade parking lot for the Wellesley Subway station.

Yonge Street Revitalization (Downtown Yonge BIA/City of Toronto)

No this shouldn't happen. Yonge Street needs to recover and the historical signiffgance of the buildings and everything. True. Pedestrians need to take priority over cars and buses. I don't know anything about Granville but I know about Yonge Street and it's stupid that they're not...
