    Roads: Gardiner Expressway

While it true Tory was pandering outer Toronto voters, I think he was pandering even more to industry. And to be honest, I think they have a point. The answer to climate change is to build proper transit, not to fret about 1.7 km of roadway. BTW, yes I drive, but I drive a plug-in Prius.

Not saying this is you, but people keep throwing around this $500 million number, but that makes no sense to me, since it's based on 100 years of maintenance. IOW, I think there is a lot of fudging going on both sides, on multiple points, two of which are delay times and costs.

And of course, as mentioned, the other assumption is that large and currently completely unfunded transit projects are already built to make those numbers viable. Another option: Build those transit projects, then tear down the east Gardiner. That is still an option for the future after all.

Yes the other conclusion was that if we assume they don't cross in one shot the delay may be 5 mins. Still not the same as the city's 2-3 mins Also important to realize that 5 mins on a good day means 10 mins or longer on a bad day, in the real world.

Yes. The tunnelling was put in for political reasons, which is unfortunate.

Since my previous post was deleted, I will rephrase: I am quite surprised at how many people are now talking about Olivia Chow in this context. First, she has absolutely nothing to do with this so she really shouldn't be part of the discussion. Second, she ran an absolutely horrible campaign...

I believe it was a strategic move to get tunnel-councillor K on board with the hybrid vote.

    Roads: Gardiner Expressway

It should be noted that the projected traffic delays of 2-3 minutes are based on assumptions that a whole bunch of currently unfunded transit projects get built. That in itself is reason enough to be skeptical of the data. OTOH, a different study by the University of Toronto suggested the...

Strange argument. Given that the split amongst Toronto residents was 46% in favour of hybrid and 42% in favour of boulevard, either way there would have been a lot of unhappy customers. However, he came out on the side with more support amongst Toronto residents.

I posted the wrong numbers. It was 24-21 in favour of hybrid for part 1 of the final motion. 28-17 was something else, the motion to look at tunneling.

Vote for boulevard was 19-26. And the vote for hybrid was 28-17. Impressive. I guess Rob did vote then. The whole tunneling add-on part is stupid though. Waste of time. EDIT: I posted the wrong numbers. It was 24-21 in favour of hybrid. 28-17 was something else.

Vote carries! 44-1 in favour of not maintaining the Gardiner as is. :D

I'm a higher income ex-downtowner who came from a left-leaning family but who personally votes centrist. When I was looking for a house, I was originally looking for a detached home in central Toronto. While at the time (many years ago), I could afford to buy there, the homes in my price range...

Maybe not so premature. 22 hybrid 17 boulevard 3 undecided 2 not responded 1 orange jumpsuit guy So, out of the 5 remaining unknowns, the hybrids only need one of them to win. Furthermore, assuming someone doesn't change his/her mind, it is now impossible for boulevard to win, since it can...

Which poll? The last poll I read had the hybrid as the preferred option by a small margin, but support for hybrid was skewed toward the outer aspects of the city, and support for boulevard was skewed toward the city centre. Not surprisingly, hybrid is most popular in Scarborough and East York...

More like few decades, when they actually build the transit that is needed. $500 million is the projection over the next 100 years. You're not going to build too much rapid transit for $5 million. Even in the next decade, that's only $50 million.

? I just read he's voting boulevard. Still, not sure if this is premature or not, but The Star is now saying: Mayor John Tory headed for decisive win on Gardiner East Mayor John Tory is likely to win his first big council test and looks to be headed for a more decisive victory on the fate of...

Now it's: 19 Hybrid 16 Boulevard 7 Undecided 2 Not responded 1 Rob Ford Yup. Rob Ford is sticking to his guns. Council is on lunch. Back mid-afternoon. Those 7 undecided are going to be pretty popular over the lunch break.

John Tory is sounding shaky. Talking about tunnelling option and further study to make hybrid option better. And it seems some other people are leaning deferral.
