http://archives.york.ca/councilcommitteearchives/pdf/rpt%206%20cls%202-33.pdf "staff is confident that the engineering can be completed and construction commenced in 2008 to assure that the terminal will be in operation no later than 2010."

    Toronto/Chicago comparisons

That is just one of the possible problems with New Orleans. Also consider the possibility of a huge Mississippi flood hitting New Orleans from the other side, as well as the possibility of the Old River Control Structure getting overwhelmed and changing the Mississippi's flow (much more...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Oh, for sure. Many members of this forum (including myself) doubt that the Milton Line would ever have happened without the spill.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

We speculate about it all the time, but there is no way this will happen without 1. the Missing Link, plus new CP RoW along all of the CN freight corridor i.e. York Sub. 2. a even more costly infrastructure project to add tracks and replace all the infrastructure (bridges, etc.) along the...

Midtown corridor in 50 years! Maybe I will live to see it.

    Toronto/Chicago comparisons

Looking through the area there are a lot of cities founded in the early 1900s. The problem is that they're no longer "satellite" cities, because they are part of the continuous built-up area now, jobs are very much fluid over the boundaries, and the individual cities are really not independent...

    Toronto/Chicago comparisons

The first page states that 263K residents are currently employed. Page 2 indicates that 2585 residents commute from K-W to the City of Toronto. This is just about 1%.

https://www.regionofwaterloo.ca/en/resources/Census/NHSBulletin5PlaceofWorkandCommutingtoWork2014ACCESS.pdf Here's a Region of Waterloo study on commuting from the region. 12% work outside K-W (which tbf is more city-like than Kenosha). Something like 1% going to Toronto, with more heading to...

    Toronto/Chicago comparisons

Just referring to Deadpool X's post on the previous page, and commenting about how population density is a very inaccurate way to measure how contiguous Chicago and Toronto are.

    Toronto/Chicago comparisons

If you just go on Google Maps and measure the distances, you'll see that Chicago sprawl goes for 60-80km in all directions from the Loop, while Toronto's built up area ends at between 30-50km.

    Toronto/Chicago comparisons

Man, it's fun reading the early pages of some of these threads sometimes. The Fords pre cocaine and premiership, the Trump Tower, transit complaint (Crosstown still a year and a half away), waterfront (hey, finally got started on them Don Lands), downtown parking lots (getting more rare), etc...

    Toronto Bloor-Yonge Station Capacity Enhancement | ?m | ?s | TTC | AECOM

Oh, I'm not saying that RER won't help; I'm just saying that your average commuter has not seen new options presented by the RER plan in the past five years.

    Toronto Bloor-Yonge Station Capacity Enhancement | ?m | ?s | TTC | AECOM

Never would have worked as stated by Tory. As for today, the complete lack of connections in reasonable places (except maybe Kennedy), low frequency, and high fare with no transfer discount, all mean that a proper subway-relieving RER network is still nowhere to be seen.

    Downtown Kitchener

Site staff wouldn't add Kitchener stuff to the database, but given that we have quite a few Barrie threads now, I don't think it's too odd to have building discussions on the forum. KW is about the same distance as Barrie by GO or car and still solidly in the Toronto sphere of influence.

    Time for Ranked Ballots

Don't forget the St Patrick's 2.0s that John Tory will need to pay back!

    Toronto, Capital of North America?

The guy bumped two three-year-old threads to rant about multiculturalism, so yeah.

    GO Transit Electrification | Metrolinx

That's one way to look at it. Another way to look at it is that if Metrolinx announced catenaries, they'd have to deal with years of backlash about "ugly wires", while not getting any work done anyway because they don't have enough budget. Wouldn't put it past the ML leadership to pull something...

    Downtown Kitchener

I just moved next to UW for my undergrad, so I decided to have a look at Google's streetview. The place has really changed in the past ten years. With the enrolment increasing 50% (about 10k) for an average term (no idea about WLU), the off-campus "student ghetto" has gotten a lot denser...
