    Rob Ford's Toronto

I seem to recall some news article linked to in this thread (from the G&M maybe?) stating that it is very difficult to get a stay of a ruling pending an appeal. I don't recall any explanation as to why, but it increases the odds of this being resolved before the next municipal elections.

Let's be clear. Rural is farmer's fields. Urban is city streets. Main Street in Brampton isn't rural in even the most generous use of the word.

It seems to me the pecuniary interest has simply to do with the fact that he voted on whether he had to pay back the money or not. Whether the initial breach of the code of conduct was actually a breach or not is immaterial to the case.

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

Just drove from Kirkland Lake to Kitchener today. Highway 11 isn't yet fully twinned despite reports saying so. There is still construction going on in Huntsville and Powassan that brings traffic back to two lanes; however, it is on the verge of completion. Looking at BurlOak's map, I seem to...

Star: City Hall eyes traffic circles

I live in Kitchener right now and experience roundabouts regularly here. On the whole, I really like them. That said, there are some problems. Primarily, people seem to forget how to use signal lights in a roundabout. I've noticed improvements with respect to this, but if at the very least...

I realize that this is a rather late response; however, if you are looking for topo maps, they are freely available through Toporama from Natural Resources Canada.

It is possible for more than one person to make a mistake, and both of them be entirely responsible for their own actions. Ford is equally culpable whether there is some sort of employee who should have reminded him or not.

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

The Exx etc. refer to the original township surveys which divided the township into concessions numbered away from a base line. In many cases, the base line was not at the edge of the township, so to distinguish concessions, a suffix was added referring to the main road. Later, this road...

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

Reviving the highway numbering thread, if the MTO were to pursue a more logical and consistent numbering system, I think they would have to drop the 4xx system and adopt an entirely different system (Letter number pairing most likely to avoid ambiguity) that could be used in conjunction with the...
