    Toronto Union Pearson Express | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | MMM Group Limited

So this is a train for people travelling for work; it's hardly surprising that would be the target demographic since it is connecting the CBD to the airport. I know my company wouldn't blink an eye at me expensing a $30 train ride and I'm hardly very high on the totem pole. I can definitely see...

    Toronto Union Pearson Express | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | MMM Group Limited

There won't be any baggage drop-off at Union though, is that correct?

Waterloo Region Transit Developments (ION LRT, new terminal, GRT buses)

It tends to get overlooked with the LRT, but they are also planning on some major changes to the bus network that should make transit significantly more useful once everything comes together.

    Rob Ford's Toronto

In the context of this list, it's pretty clear that Rob Ford voting against the homeless shelter for gay youth wasn't homophobic in and of itself (though Rob Ford almost certainly is). Rob Ford is simply opposed to all disenfranchised and vulnerable people, sexuality doesn't need to be part of...

    GO Transit Electrification | Metrolinx

I don't believe the overburden is that deep in the CBD. There are undoubtably places where it is in Toronto (notably linked to the Laurentian River channel), but I don't believe it gets more than about 10m deep in that area. I imagine that a tunnel under Union Station would be in the bedrock by...

Visited Montreal for the first time. Some questions about their Metro system

I'm pretty sure they have TBMs that can bore a large enough tunnel for the TTCs standard trains, but I guess the question is how much more costly it is than having two smaller TBMs. It seems unintuitive to me that a single bore is cheaper than two. Surely you would get away with removing less...

    GO Transit Electrification | Metrolinx

Wasn't one of the major capacity constraints of Union the fact that all the lines are basically operated as terminating lines, requiring significant time for them to reverse directions? If they switch to through service, this should allow much shorter dwell times at Union, and for service that...

    1233 Queen East | ?m | 8s

Why don't they deliver the TRs by train like they do the new streetcars? I would have figured they could deliver them to Greenwood Yard.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

I've wondered if weekend train service up to Collingwood/Wasaga Beach would be successful. I feel like they should be easier to serve due to the fact that residences are more clustered than in Muskoka and far more easily served by public transit. There are also more options like time-shares etc...

    Toronto Strachan Avenue Overpass | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

I wonder if Metrolinx has considered leasing the air rights at this location. It would be cool if they could infill right across the corridor.

It's a prestige thing for some people I think.

High Speed Rail: London - Kitchener-Waterloo - Pearson Airport - Toronto

Perhaps they could build a station for the HSR on the spur near the Viscount Garage. UPX would bring you right to T1, HSR you would need to hop onto the Link train.

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

There are all sorts of places like this on any highway in Ontario. I'm curious why business was so much better in the past than now. The population is much higher now, but perhaps we don't do road trips anymore? This is somewhat supported by the fact that the ferry to Manitoulin Island has cut...

    Toronto Ontario Line 3 | ?m | ?s

The O-Train line does have freight activity on it, or at least it used to. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xSbVkidAbgk

Roads: Highway 407 East (Durham Region)

I'm not sure that HOV lanes are a useful response to cottage traffic. When it's a problem, the vast majority of vehicles on 400 are HOVs and therefore HOV lanes are going to be just as congested as general lanes. Also, the whole point of adding them is to encourage people to carpool, which is...

    Toronto Union Pearson Express | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | MMM Group Limited

Is there a map anywhere that names the various rail subdivisions in the GTA? I can normally figure out what people are talking about, but it would be really useful and interesting to see a map that explains it all.

    Toronto Union Pearson Express | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | MMM Group Limited

It may be too much to wish for, but I really hope they change the colour scheme for the trains. This drab yellowy-brown colour does nothing at all for me.

    Transit Fantasy Maps

I'm not exactly sold on the idea. In particular, moving UPX out of Union Station is a major mistake since the entire point of the line is to connect Pearson with Union.

    Ontario's top 10 historic downtowns

I don't think Owen Sound will win any awards with it's downtown; it's certainly not as picturesque as many of the others on this list. It is definitely very well used by the population though, something I was very impressed by when I was there for a short time.
