A Bank Street subway is not even on the radar of decision makers. We really want our own Yonge-Bloor transfer.

    Ottawa Transit Developments

I have been harping about the lack of redundancies on the Ottawa board for months including before the Confederation Line commenced service. I get told that we can't afford redundancy. I say we can't afford not having adequate redundancy. People are going to bale out on transit if the lack of...

Down to 10 trains in service now. Also, Confederation Line was plagued with problems all weekend. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ottawa/lrt-weekend-switches-smoke-1.5433169

High Speed Rail: London - Kitchener-Waterloo - Pearson Airport - Toronto

There is already four levels of train service in the GTA. Streetcars, subways, GO and VIA. I don't see there being a sufficient market for yet another level of service especially given that GO and VIA already share the same track and another level would have to share those same track yet again.

OC Transpo does not have enough operational trains to maintain peak period service today. Only 11 trains are available. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ottawa/oc-transpo-train-shortage-delays-1.5432729

I totally agree. A rail solution only makes sense where demand is very high and congestion is a problem. You don't go from nothing to rail. There needs to be regional bus network first.

Serious Confederation Line failure. Train service will be interrupted for several hours or longer. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ottawa/ottawa-lrt-confederation-line-wire-broken-1.5429328

    Ottawa Transit Developments

There are 13 two-car trains running. The original plan was to have 15 two-car trains running on the Phase 1 route. There has been considerable talk about adding one or two more trains. I believe the issue relates to train reliability. More trains need to be out of service than originally...

    Hamilton Hamilton Line B LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

What we are seeing in Hamilton is a delay tactic. The PCs don't want to spend the money on a project that was close to shovel ready. They have other spending priorities. So they announce another study for alternatives. None of the alternatives will be ready for construction for years and...

    Hamilton Hamilton Line B LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

I laugh when I see plans to replace urban transit spending in Hamilton with roads designed to service the exurbs and increasing sprawl. Of course, all designed to support the Conservative voter base. We are seeing both the federal and provincial Conservatives making the same mistake by not...

    Hamilton Hamilton Line B LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

If the trains remain unreliable and we saw a perfect example which lasted 6 hours on New Years eve, adding more trains for Phase 2 will make things worse. The reliability problem must be solved or LRT will be massive failure. One broken down train blocks the whole system too often whereas it...

    Hamilton Hamilton Line B LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

A capacity increase was the main justification for Ottawa's LRT tunnel. Other than congestion related delays, the speed of Ottawa's system was not expected to increase given that the Transitways were already grade separated outside of downtown. Buses can travel just as fast as trains in...

The Churchill train provides overnight service. UPX coaches are not enough if you want tourists on this line.

    Hamilton Hamilton Line B LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

I really don't understand why Hamilton has been hesitant about LRT even in the suburbs. LRT is a city building project. The reaction in Ottawa is totally the opposite. Despite the early hiccups with Phase 1, Phase 2 and even 3 can't be built fast enough. I guess we have had this hesitation...

The task force could come back with a bunch of small projects that accomplish very little and make the Conservatives look good or it just delays anything from happening for years.

Every boarded up building should have Ford's face painted on it.

And yet another study to spend on nothing concrete. This is the ultimate delay spending tactic, which is something I was counting on from Ford and the Conservatives. .

    Ottawa Transit Developments

That is true but I think it goes beyond that. They also overestimated the number of drivers that they could lay off and they under budgeted the switch over to the Confederation Line. The end result is a shortage of both drivers and buses. They dumped surplus buses immediately after the...

Which is now shining the light on the bus system problems and the lack of drivers. Today, the main bus route to Barrhaven had cancelled trips at 2:45, 3:35, 3:45, 4:00, 4:05, 4:15, 4:20, 4:30, 4:45, 4:50, 6:10, 6:15, 6:30 p.m. Looks like they cancelled the last trip on Route 256 this morning...

    Ottawa Transit Developments

There are still service interruptions pretty well every day. Door problems last Friday and Saturday, a train had to be taken out of service on Monday (public urination on board), and a shut down of the east end of the line yesterday afternoon.
