    VIA Rail

More likely because the exact route has not yet been established. East of Smiths Falls, the route is known.

As someone who lives in the area of the Trillium Line, I don't have a lot of confidence with the plan being implemented with Phase 2. The three southern stations are remotely located to current development with Limebank having the best hope of development in the medium term. They should have...

    VIA Rail

One person on the Ottawa board expressed frustration that after struggling to get to the Via station, the last Toronto bound train was cancelled on Wednesday. Perhaps, there were no trains available in Ottawa to make the run.

    VIA Rail

I don't understand these comments. The proposal serves more people than the status quo and offers more service for most if not all people. Regardless, the majority live in the three big cities. We have already tried to improve the Lakeshore route and it was a dismal failure We can't repeat...

    VIA Rail

I don't know how the Lakeshore route offers any solution We still end up with two routes, one to Montreal and the other to Ottawa. So, HFR is dead, since we can't run all TOM trains on the same route. Also, Via's most popular route between Ottawa and Toronto is limited by travel through...

Well, Day six tomorrow. How long will the closure last?

Oddly the subject of union rules came up in a discussion I had today on a completely different topic. Union rules may have restricted the actions that could be taken and by whom.

    VIA Rail

This all reminds me of the movie, Trains, Planes, and Automobiles. I sympathize with all who are caught up in this mess. But, it sounds like the highways are in bad shape as well. Highway 401 has been closed between Highway 416 and Trenton. It is not a day to be travelling anywhere, sadly on...

    VIA Rail

Years ago, I used the mileage charge for a business trip and switched to VIA business class and a night stay at the Royal York. I road the train between Ottawa and Toronto in a blizzard, while somebody else white knuckled it by car. A wise decision for a winter business trip.

Every 10 minutes weekdays, every 15 minutes on weekends and in the evening on weekdays.

In my case, it was part of the big Harris download in 1997. It was a joke when the city put a very thin coat of new pavement over the rotting road. Of course, it broke up by the next spring.

You better believe it. I live on a former provincial highway. Maintenance has gone to h*ll since it was downloaded to the municipality.

    VIA Rail

Based on my recent motor trip from Ottawa to Niagara Falls, they cannot improve VIA service soon enough. Traffic in both directions was horrible and all it takes is one accident, one breakdown, or one construction project to cause substantial delays. Basically, traffic crawled most of the...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

This is Ontario politics. Doug Ford promised train service to Niagara Falls. We got one very slow round trip per day. Doug Ford promised train service to London. We got one very slow round trip per day. Doug Ford gets to check off that he fulfilled both promises. It doesn't matter whether...

Heaven forbid that we start building a tunnel under Bank Street. It might give some the idea of extending that tunnel southward towards Billings Bridge, an idea that some Line 1 supporters pooh-pooh. It would be better to invest in yet another east-west line.

I am curious about your comment connecting the gay community and Jean Drapeau. Maybe I don't know something about him.

    Ottawa Transit Developments

I do not believe for one minute that a surface tramway on Wellington Street would have prevented the current demonstrations and blockade. Even with the flexibility of buses, there is little or no transit across the Ottawa River in either direction at the present time. The latest news...

    Mississauga Hurontario-Main Line 10 LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

Does this mean that we are currently using tax money for a permanent but 'temporary' transit station, that will inevitably be relocated in the future? Or are we creating permanent bad infrastructure? You would think that you would want to make transfers between LRT and buses as efficient as...

    Montréal Transit Developments

With Montreal's cold, snow and ice, I would be very surprised that there would be reliable operations using a third rail. Some of Ottawa's issues have been directly related to extreme winter weather even with overhead catenary.
