    Toronto Ontario Line 3 | ?m | ?s

Phasing would not work if the technology selected needs a new yard, which realistically can only be built near Thorncliffe Park. Which means you might as well go to Eglinton for phase 1. Maybe the Osgoode to Exhibition/OP is a phase 2 opening. Time will tell if and when any of this gets built.

    SmartTrack (Proposed)

I agree, but in my mind, SmarTrack was never a thing after the Liberals limited it to be just some new GO stations that the city is paying for. Essentially there is and never was SmartTrack beyond a napkin plan for Tory to win the election in Toronto. I believe that RER is dead with...

This thread has gotten off-track. What does this discussion have to do with SmartTrack?

Toronto Finch West LRT and TYSSE: Finch West Station | ?m | ?s | Mosiac TG | Arup

Yes that is true. There is a wall panel that can be opened up to connect FWLRT to the subway station.

    Richmond Hill Yonge Line 1 North Subway Extension | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

If you look at the radius, you realize that the Langstaff stop is just north of the 800m radius, so the south part of Langstaff can cover almost half of the same territory that Royal York would cover. I don't see the need to have both Langstaff and Royal York. While there is some redevelopment...

    Richmond Hill Yonge Line 1 North Subway Extension | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

Nothing dumb about it. This is the reality of the current folks who live there and the current geography. This subway will be mostly used for commuting to NYCC/Midtown and Downtown. Willowdale is different because it’s on a growth node and not a heritage district.

    Richmond Hill Yonge Line 1 North Subway Extension | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

Having lived in the Yonge and Clark area for a decade I can say with certainty that the Royal Orchard station is not needed and absolutely nothing will be built in Thornhill heritage district. Thornhill folks are a strong NIMBY bunch. The Thornhill heritage area is dead and soulless. The NIMBYs...

    2019 Canadian Federal Election

I agree it’s a problem. Is it the end of the world? No. It’s a cut. Can schools figure it out. Yes. Absolutely I agree that it will cause problems for classes like Science and CS where bench or computers are needed. This means that schools will drop small classes below 20 students and there will...

    2019 Canadian Federal Election

Doug Fords actions will have little bearing on federal election results. The protests today were for relatively minor cuts to education based on shrinking enrolment in Ontario schools. The class size issue is overblown. The only real issue is the mandatory e-learning which I am hoping will be...

    VIA Rail

Yes exactly. Funding background projects is good, it’s back politics to do this kind of funding as they get no credit politically. The feds should be funding VIA HFR as a national important project. Instead they fund bus replacements. Sad. They should fun DRL, but they don’t.

    VIA Rail

This governments spending on infrastructure has been a huge disappointment. All this spending and really nothing to show for it. There is not even a website with a list of projects funded or showing where the money went. Did it all just go into some SNC exectuvites pockets? Can anyone name a...

Why Montreal rental rates are so lower than rest of the nation?

I would agree. I’m also in the tech field and salaries here are much too low for the housing costs. Compared to California, our salaries are about 50% lower (when converted to USD). This was fine until about 2015 when the market went bonkers and rent and real estate went through the roof.

    TTC: Streetcar Network

I would consider Ottawa BRT as rapid as the stops are far enough apart and it runs on a dedicated ROW and not in the middle of the street for the most part. The problem in Toronto is that the LRTs we are building will be more or less just like what Torontians see on Spadina, St. Clair and...

Why Montreal rental rates are so lower than rest of the nation?

Fully agree. Montrealers are chill. They go out more; they enjoy life and take more vacations. They work to live. Torontonians live to work.

    TTC: Streetcar Network

That’s all fine and good. I’m all for solid rail based transit. However, I would disagree that we could call this LRT rapid transit. I think the general population would consider subways and GO rail transit as rapid. Buses and streetcars are not considered rapid. I believe that rapid in most...

    TTC: Streetcar Network

Yes that is true but the LRT is sold as rapid transit. The problem is that with too many stops it won’t be. It needs to be. Toronto already does great at slow local transit. What we lack is rapid transit to get people across large distances fast.

I predict it will open in either late 2022 or early 2023.

Why Montreal rental rates are so lower than rest of the nation?

Just want to add to the debate about housing. Montreal does indeed have lower salaries but in my opinion this is more than offset by the cheap housing closer to the core city which results in shorter commutes. Also for families, daycare costs are 1/10th of those in GTA. So yes Montrealers have...
