Despite what Ford says The Streetcar in Toronto is here to stay.

Hehe. Well I'm sure light rail kills children every bit as efficiently as any other mode of transport the children aren't being careful around :-]. Watching that Bergen video, it seemed like a lot of Bergeners (Bergenites? Bergeninians?) were unaccustomed to seeing anything running on those...

Despite what Ford says The Streetcar in Toronto is here to stay.

Man, I can't believe I spent 27 minutes watching that entire thing. Totally worth it though. The highlight was around the 20 minute mark, when the tram nearly plowed through a screaming crowd of children :>

    Church-Wellesley Village

I'm kind of sad about Yefsies, because I discovered they made a pretty decent donair about one week before they closed for good.

    Church-Wellesley Village

Thanks for the info, dt_toronto_geek. I find I have a really short memory for things like that... for the life of me I couldn't remember what they tore down to make that big rocky vacant lot by Wellesley station either, but I eventually found a picture of that (er, possibly in this very thread...

    Privatizing Garbage Collection

Ah, yes. Well if one is only concerned with perception and ignores reality, then Rob Ford is perhaps the greatest mayor we've ever had :).

    Church-Wellesley Village

It's been consistently (well, occasionally) bugging me for ages that can't remember what used to be on that corner, even though I'm pretty sure whatever it was was still there when I lived sort of nearby. I heard somewhere that it was an amenity / rec centre for the Village Green apartments...

    Privatizing Garbage Collection

That's the kicker in all this. Ford Fans and union bashers are trumpeting this as a great victory over the union, but the only union jobs that are being lost are a few hundred temporary and/or part-time postions, presumably mostly at the bottom of the pay scale. The full-time employees have a...

    Rob Ford's Toronto

You say this as if you think it makes a difference to somebody whose main concern is undoing anything and everything done by Miller :-P.

    Toronto 159SW Condos | 118.87m | 36s | Alterra | Richmond Architects

Ah, good, DC83, you saved me a trip back over there to get a clearer photo of that little rendering :). I wonder how much resemblance the finished product will bear to that picture anyway? I mean, it's still pretty early in the process right?

    Toronto 159SW Condos | 118.87m | 36s | Alterra | Richmond Architects

Just walked by and noticed they have a development proposal sign up... I wish I'd taken a close-up of the rendering, but I assumed I'd be able to find it on the city web site. Alas, I cannot.

Maybe they'll also skip everything with a 4 in it like Concord Adex is fond of doing, making the penthouse floor 88 or something. See, this building is getting taller all the time! :>

Not to nitpick, but technically Vaseline tower is hexadecagonal, not round. Wait, that's totally a nitpick :). In all seriousness, I'm totally digging the idea of twin round spiraling towers. In fact, I believe I shall be disappointed if anything else is proposed for this site now!

Old Backlit Subway Map @ York Mills Station

Oddly enough, this map just caught my attention recently too. York Mills is not a station I go to regularly, but certainly I've been in there a few times in the past 15 years. Strange how it could slip under everyone's radar for so long. Or maybe everybody else already knows about it and we're...

    Toronto TeaHouse 501 Yonge Condominiums | 170.98m | 52s | Lanterra | a—A

Very true. One hopes they intend to hide the parking behind something interesting. For that matter, I think the lot is plenty deep enough to put the parking at the back of the podium with street-facing units in front of it, so maybe they'll do that.

    Toronto TeaHouse 501 Yonge Condominiums | 170.98m | 52s | Lanterra | a—A

I hope the real podium isn't as ginormous as the imaginary one shown above. The rezoning application kind of implies it will be 3 stories, doesn't it? (Ground retail with 2 levels of parking above... I guess it doesn't expressly say there won't be anything else above the parking.)

    Toronto 365 Church Condos | 102.1m | 31s | Menkes | Wallman Architects

Speaking of students, the lack of >2BR units here kind of seems like a missed opportunity (or perhaps a deliberate attempt to discourage large groups of students?). People are always complaining about the lack of large "family sized" condos, and developers are always saying "buyers don't want...
