Dundas West/ Bloor Mobility Hub +interconnected hub network (Metrolinx)

50 million! Am I wrong in thinking that that seems like a lot for a glorified passageway though an existing parking garage?

    Toronto 822-838 Richmond Street West | 28.59m | 8s | Hullmark | Atelier Barda architecture

Great, so planning has succeeded in adding cost and complexity to the build, reducing GFA, and increasing the carbon footprint during construction and operation, all so we get a building that lines up with another nearby building of arbitrary height.

    Cycling infrastructure (Separated bike lanes)

This is true. Maybe some of the budget could also be reallocated to separated infrastructure elsewhere where there's greater need.

I remember that staff report where RSHP told the city they'd VE'd as much as they could, basically "if you want the RSHP name on your building, this is as bare bones as we'll go". To the architects' credit, the result is still excellent, but nothing like that original competition entry.

I am shocked and appalled to see brick going all the way to the top! Someone alert the planning department so they can force the architects to switch to cheap aluminum siding above the stepback. (Just kidding, this is great.)

    Mayor Olivia Chow's Toronto

Besides, nobody else wants it. From the (probably paywalled?) story in the Star:

    Mayor Olivia Chow's Toronto

Ben Spurr has a preview of Mayor Chow's appointments: https://www.thestar.com/news/gta/olivia-chow-has-picked-her-team-at-city-hall-sources-say-an-inside-look-at/article_3186c8fe-c5b5-585f-bed5-1e9f4f3f7bd7.html We have: Malik as statutory deputy mayor Colle, Morley, and McKelvie as fake deputy...

Toronto GO Transit: Davenport Diamond Grade Separation | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

I reached out to the councillor's office when Metrolinx put up the barriers at Bloor and Perth because there's really no reasonable cycling detour for southbound railpath users (Sterling one-way northbound, no left turn from westbound Bloor onto Perth, so you're either biking on a sidewalk or...

    Zoning Reform Ideas

You may be right, and do I hope that the city will audit homeowners based on water and hydro records. While I imagine that audits will turn up some undeclared vacant properties, I'm skeptical that there is any substantial volume relative to the scale of the housing crisis. I've heard plenty of...

Toronto GO Transit: Davenport Diamond Grade Separation | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

I also ran into this today. Thought I'd be smart and head up to Dupont because Wallace was closed and got funnelled into a single-lane death trap under the tracks. Bloor is no better, so I had to walk my bike on the sidewalk on Wallace on the way back. North-south is also a mess with the...

    Zoning Reform Ideas

How do you square that with this? https://www.thestar.com/news/gta/just-2-100-properties-reported-empty-through-toronto-s-new-vacant-homes-tax/article_2b38ddfa-e8ee-5824-aa74-3ddf33892a7e.html

I wonder whether they'll re-grade Wallace under the overpass once the tracks are out. I thought I recalled seeing some early elevations where the roadway was dropped by ~0.5m.

The corrugated underside of the roof was always meant to be exposed. That seems very on-brand for RSHP and I think it could look fine if executed well. Unfortunately, it looks like we've lost the tidy grid of metal supports shown in the renderings and been given a much messier arrangement in...

Problematic Park Design - Why Some Parks Don't Work

Great overview, @Northern Light! Dufferin Park Ave from Gladstone to Havelock is a very popular spot for skateboarders. It would be nice to see that formalized somehow. I pass through Dufferin Grove several times a week by bike, and the bike infrastructure (or lack thereof) is frustrating...
