Premier Doug Ford's Ontario

I’m sure many don’t know this, but there was a Conservative movement that hid behind when Trudeau was the PM
That's kind of the typical oscillation. Ontario tends to have the opposite end of the spectrum in provincial government vs the federal government. There are periods of overlap, but it tends to flip shortly after. I expect something similar with happen in 2029/2030, when Ford is likely to be swept from office, if the OLP picks a viable leader, and Carney would be lucky to secure another term following the next election.

How are the Liberals “the opposite end of the spectrum” from the Conservatives? FFS, the federal Liberals are further right than Bill Davis at this point.

The Carney Liberals are to the right of the Trudeau Liberals, in an attempt to forestall the oscillation to the CPC. Probably won't work long term but for CPC bungling and ineptitude. Ford (centre right at best) will give way to something more on the left.

Generally the NDP is outside the window of Canadian political oscillation. They don't really try to govern, they try to influence and protest.

I believe in a different universe, if Layton were healthy, we would see him as PM of a minority government.

They need to get back to working class issues, it all starts on the economic side of socioeconomic, something most people could and should get behind.

Their marquee project, dental and pharma care, as it stands now, is indirectly subsidizing low-wage employers who might've otherwise been prompted to provide coverage due to market conditions.

There is still hope for provincial and federal NDP.

It seems Ford's claim that he is more scrutinized has some holes. Quebec bought jets - for their air ambulance service, not government officials. An aircraft configured for medical service would not be compatible for passenger transport. Besides, Ornge has or is buying two Pilatus Pc-24 jets.

When? NDP doesn't have time for that. They are too busy with the following:
1. Determining whose equity card is bigger than the rest of equity cards.
2. Arguing whether a white man should ever have a voice in this country again.
3. Tripping over each other's pronouns.

Such a busy agenda doesn't leave much room for working class issues. Or anything to do with governing a country, for that matter.

Show us on the doll where the pronoun hurt you.

Federal ministers typically fly commercial. There's no excuse for Ford to have a permanent jet on hand.

I don't care enough about identity politics or culture war issues for the pronouns to hurt me. But the entire 2026 NDP convention consisted of people butthurt about their pronouns and equity cards. Give the doll to them, they desperately need it (for comfort, if nothing else).

The amount of viral memes that convention generated around the world though... Yikes!

And the only thing it hurt was not my feelings, it was NDPs electability chances. After that kind of a clown show, good luck getting any seats in the next election.

As a literal card carrying NDP member, I can tell you that is completely false and a video of highly cherry picked cuts from a wannabe conservative influencer is proof of sweet-fuh-all.

Also, what's with the soviet propaganda imagery in the background?

Yeah, so you picked the one from the backwater Newfie ex-DJ with 100 followers and six whole likes on the video? It must've blown up so hard, by!

Oh, I get the feeling the NDP will never ever be your choice, regardless of what their policies are or how whitewashed their convention is.

Oh, that convention gave plenty of cherries for the picking

That's how NDP is starting to be perceived: a party that stands for communist-style wealth redistribution schemes. "Eat the rich" and everything that goes with it.

Yeah, so you picked the one from the backwater Newfie ex-DJ with 100 followers and six whole likes on the video? It must've blown up so hard, by!
I specifically picked that video because it comes form a fellow Canadian that simply compiles the main viral clips into one coherent video without giving too much commentary. And he doesn't make fun of people in the videos for their pronoun choices (and actually uses their pronouns correctly), unlike a lot of other conservative commentators do (purposely referring to the non-binary chair as a "lady"). And yeah, this kind of video does not get you a lot of likes, but that's not the point.

I specifically avoided the vids with millions of views from MAGA world with clickbait titles like "Canada has gone INSANE" because:
A) I don't want to promote far right opinions any further
B) Unfortunately, they equate the fringe views of the NDP convention with the entire country of Canada

But yeah, thanks NDP for giving conservatives so much ammunition for their culture war. Good job!

I have voted for NDP in the past. Back when they had a good progressive economic platform instead of a stack of grievance [equity] cards to air out.
I will not be voting for NDP in its current state of dysfunction.

Right.

No, I'm pretty sure that's how they are and have always been perceived by ignorant conservatives who don't know the difference between communism and social democracy.

Or are you saying the number of ignorant people is growing in the country?

"Without too much commentary"? C'mon. The Soviet imagery, "Ellen Degenderless"? Right.

The dude is a failed DJ who thought he could get into provincial politics (for the PCs! Shock!) and failed miserably at that as well. Dude couldn't even get half the votes of the Liberal in his riding even though the PCs took the province. Now he's trying to go after the sweet right wing grievance grift money (and not doing a particularly good job at that, either).

If you see this video as either factual or newsworthy or anything more than biased tripe, there's zero hope for you.

Further than you already have?

B) Unfortunately, the fringe equate the views of the NDP convention with the entire country of Canada.

There, fixed that for you.

But yeah, thanks NDP for giving the conservatives so much ammunition for their culture war. Good job!
The conservatives used Trudeau's choice of f-ing socks as ammunition. They're not a sane party.

Some people are too caught up in things that have little to no consequence on the average person's day to day life. Probably because those people have their own lower rung needs satisfied. They assume that the lower working classes fervently care about the same things they do.

Canada has never been more socially progressive as it is today. But listening to some people's commentary, you'd think we're one wrong step from the Handmaid's Tale.
